On the one hand its probably known that Staley will get fired next year if its another underachieving season.

So maybe the prospective OC knows that its only for one year.

On the other hand, if Staley is fired, maybe that current OC could be promoted up.

      Thank you Fleet.
      I am not worthy.
      Very educational video.
      To summarize...
Pederson made Halftime adjustments that Staley could not answer, especially after Vato's pec.
      Brandon will learn.

I dunno. I assume/guess/think that he probably said something like this in private to the team? At least that's what I hope happens anytime a team has an epic meltdown like this.

Look - a week after the sting has worn off a bit...I am at least WILLING to see what he can do next year since he did hold the team together this year through unprecedented injuries and Lombardi certainly wasn't his first choice for OC. And everybody loves a redemption story (honestly at this point it would need to be a Super Bowl to wash the stink off). BUT, why in the hell is TT allowed to try to find the players to make it work?
It would be refreshing to hear any coach utter anything honest and forthcoming at any time. I don’t disagree the chat has little value - my only point is it’s entirely normal if not near-universal for all coaches. Can’t make any judgement about Staley from it.

we have no choice but to see what BS does next year. TT’s teflon slipscreen has been amazing for years. Owners cycle thru one idea after another and never seem to notice there’s only one common denominator that ties the last 10 years together.

Bringing up Belichick is kind of ironic as he has a long history of playing starters in meaningless games. Also not sure I'd bring up his press conferences as any great beacons of coaching insight as he just repeats the same thing in a condescending tone to any question, especially after a loss.

Staley is still a young head coach who has made mistakes and is clearly a polarizing person. Anyone thinking he'd be replaced this year doesn't really follow this team or was simply deluding themselves with wishful thinking. I do think there is pressure on him this year to get the team to take the next step and with the right hire at OC, he should get there with the pieces in place. If he doesn't, he'll be gone.

I have more questions about Staley the DC than Staley the HC.
I agree with all of this. The only problem is Staley the DC IS Staley the HC. I am not aghast he is retained for next year, nor would I have been disappointed if he were fired.

I think Staley is on the right track.
            back to front.
another year with Vato, maybe JCJ
Taylor 2nd year in the system.
            Derwin leading the secondary.

A more consistent offense to close out leads with multiple first downs.

Staley can compete with the Pedersons and Reids.
            we're close.

Or we win the SB and everybody gets to pose with the Lombardi trophy if the OC does a good job.
His stock will be high on the HC list for a bunch of teams.
Chargers 2023 OC is a premium position for an offensive guru.

Mike McDaniel was promoted to OC with the 49ers less than a day after Staley was hired so I guess you could spin that as not wanting to work with Staley and staying with the team he was with for 5 years. O'Connell and Hackett were both OCs for other teams and you have to get permission for a lateral move. The Rams denied permission for the Chargers to interview O'Connell. Not sure about Hackett. Lombardi was reported as Staley's 4th choice so I'm not sure where the LeFleur rejection came in.

None of that matters any way - if candidates reject the position now, it would be more meaningful. With a young QB, a lot of good young talent on the oline, and some talent (though admittingly lacking speed) at WR and a back like Ekeler, this will be a very enticing job primed for an instant turn around. If someone "fixes" the offense, they are in line for a quick jump to HC. If Staley gets blown out, they could get promoted to HC or at worse they still get paid.

                        It's his nickname for Herbert.

4800 yards of checkdowns is pretty hard to do.
