I'm not saying Tommy T ever said "push year"Originally posted by SDfan View Postyep- and that was 10 years ago. TT never said it or anything like it. Not sure he even subscribes to it- but that doesn't stop OPI from playing his little word games.
But the majority of fans on this board have said year 3 was Tommy T's year.Hashtag thepowderblues

Peterson gets a GASP and Hardy just a mention? Head scratcher.Originally posted by QSmokey View PostAnd I applaud the team for NOT pursuing Hardy or - GASP! - Adrian Peterson.
OK, that' a different issue. I agree. We still have a ways to go. Personally, I think we needed to sign another OL, so that this issue wasn't sticking out like a sore thumb and requiring us to use a high draft pick on OL.But I still don't think we've done enough
Andre Johnson and Suh were, though it's unclear what level of interest we actually had. While we COULD have signed those guys, none of us knows TT's plan nor do we know how he evaluated these players on cost/benefit. While Wisinewski was a name, Oakland let him go and no one started out throwing big money at him. Fans, like us, are attracted to names and names we know. Pros like TT know who has how much tread left, who's value is appreciating and depreciating, etc.We could have signed Wisinewski. Many of us thought that Foster would have been a great addition. Also Hairston. To be fair, both Hairston and Wisinewski are still available (I think), so there's time for that. But other than Joe Mays, I haven't heard another name being mentioned.
Like everyone was so sure we'd go WR with one of the first two picks last yr?I think we'll address RB in the Draft
Right. We may have to. How do the draftees available at those spots compare to the guys you wanted to sign? Athletically and financially? Now, we may have to go 2nd round on an OG (although I doubt we will). Or use that 2nd on a OLB, because we didn't sign Foster.
After $100M spent, we needed to sign another OG, DL and LB...what about center? ILB? S? Heck, aign em all.And what about the DL? And WR?
Great, so of the major signings you give him 1.000 and A's. Great.Franklin, Dunlap, and Flowers were "A" signings, IMO.
Right. At lower cost. So if you think those signings are a wash, your complaint is?The rest of the guys were plug-and-play for the guys we let walk.
OK, agree. But our OL is still thin
,Is everyone as thrilled as McCoy and TT seem to be about Watt as our Center?)
I am not sold. Not enough sand in the pants (just had to say that). I don't. But what's the plan over the next few months? If we're sincerely going with him, then building up around him might be less awful than jus installing him.
And yes - I KNOW! - the off-season isn't over yet!!! But to expect to improve the team ENOUGH with 3rd-tier FAs and 5th-6th-7th-round draft choices - because we HAVE to hit a home run with our 1st-2nd-3rd-round picks - I think is just asking too much.[/QUOTE]we need a true #1 WR - or at least another solid #2 guy; and the front 7 on 'D' looks strangely, and disturbingly, similar to the same group that we finished the 2014 season with.
OK.

Whatever the real reason, it's Telesco and Spanos' fault. Why isn't Rivers ready? He's supposed to be ready. Does he know that? Hey worthless guy, why don't you give PR a call and tell him he's supposed to be ready. And while you're at it, call the Chargers and tell them that their strategy is worthless, too. They need to be ready!!!Originally posted by oneinchpunch View PostWhy isn't Rivers ready?

Nice try. I'm not going to engage you in this again. I know where you stand...wait, no I don't.Originally posted by ArtistFormerlyKnownAsBKR View PostPeterson gets a GASP and Hardy just a mention? Head scratcher.

Suh was never brought in for an 'interview', so IMO the interest was about as real as the rumor that Rivers is going to be traded to Tennessee. Draw your own conclusions from that. As for Wisnieski - and TT knowing more than *I* do - well, that kind of goes without saying, no? It's funny, we (all of us) engage in nothing but the purest form of speculation around here and then, when it serves a person's argument, he plays the "Nobody knows what TT (or McCoy, or Spanos, etc) is thinking". card. If we really want to be consistent (and boring) let's have a 'rule' that says we can't discuss anything until AFTER it happens.Andre Johnson and Suh were, though it's unclear what level of interest we actually had. While we COULD have signed those guys, none of us knows TT's plan nor do we know how he evaluated these players on cost/benefit. I didn't say I was "sure". I'm never sure...about anything. Football included. That's why I said "I think".Like everyone was so sure we'd go WR with one of the first two picks last yr?
I haven't the slightest idea.Right. We may have to. How do the draftees available at those spots compare to the guys you wanted to sign? Athletically and financially?
The '$100 spent' is if all those guys see every penny for the full length of their contracts. Which rarely, if ever, happens. And I never said "Sign 'em all". I've been against signing almost as many FAs as I've been in favor of signing. So I'm not sure who that comment was directed at.After $100M spent, we needed to sign another OG, DL and LB...what about center? ILB? S? Heck, sign em all.
My complaint is...we've really, truly ADDED exactly 2 guys: Franklin and Jacoby. And Jacoby, by most accounts, is a 'meh' signing. The rest have been cheaper, lateral moves. I guess you weren't among the many that were sort of expecting a bigger FA splash this off-season? Bully for you.Right. At lower cost. So if you think those signings are a wash, your complaint is?

I haven't posted squat on the state of the Chargers this offseason. But, they had a lot of holes to fill just on the o-line alone and they haven't done much there. I'm not thinking the Franklin signing is all that and a box of chocolates.

Well, when you have people talking about which June cuts we are going to sign to make this team better I can't seem to get out of my head the fact that a few years ago teams were signing our cuts. I just find it amusing to see how fans change their perspective given their notions of the state of the team. I have always said that winning the SB, not just getting back to the playoffs, should be the goal and this team isn't moving towards the former and is really borderline on the latter. This year we are likely to be the same as we have been the last 4 years, hovering around the .500 mark. Not good enough to win the big prize in February and not bad enough to win the big prize in April.Originally posted by Den60 View PostI haven't posted squat on the state of the Chargers this offseason. Considering how AJ left things, that's not an unreasonable place to be right now IMO. We still have a lot of developing talent we're waiting on, so like most teams in the league we're trying to catch lightning in a bottle with judicious FA signings added in each offseason. Here's hoping for a healthy season ahead!
