The only problem is I think he still wants to get paid big money based on his past interview with Staley.

Yep, either big money, and/or something like a 3-4 year deal...at his age, I'd rather do a 2-year deal, with an out after that first year...only 1 pick and 1 PD in 5 games last year isn't a whole lot of production, so Sherm could be running on fumes at this point...

Getting back to the original point of the thread ....

Even if Bosa goes down, I still think we have the bodies to finish plays and get sacks.

Staley's defense doesn't get a lot of sacks by winning at the line. They lead the league in sacks by making QB hold the ball and then giving the pass rushers plenty of time to get to the QB. They may have had Donald, but last year was not his best season. He got a ton of sacks and pressures, but so many of them came off 2nd, 3mrd, and 4th effort. He didn't get them off the 1st effort like he did in the past.

When guys like Leonard Floyd end up getting a lot of sacks, it's clearly a scheme thing than their ability. Make them hold the ball and then let guys with some speed run them down. Nwosu, Fackrell and Rumph are all fine in those areas.

Houston is a better pass rusher than any of them. Clearly, he can still win some snaps off of his moves or burst. He is not going to win as many as in his prime, but he is still OK. But like Ingram, how much do we have to pay to get him? Either or both would be great additions, but only at the right price. Don't overpay for either of them.

We don't need to pay a ton of money to get sacks like the Rams did last year. They got most of them by getting good players in the secondary and then not breaking the bank on the DL and OLB.

There is plenty of talk of Staley defensive schemes being designed around the personnel he has.

In your view Steve, how would scheme our defense with the Charger personnel we have ?

                  just an inquiry...

Yep...Mel signed a one-year deal with the Steelers for $4 mil:

The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to officially announce the signing of free agent outside linebacker Melvin Ingram but that’s just a formality at this

Good for Mel. He should thrive in that defense. Steelers got a bargain. Glad it's them and not the Chiefs or Raiders.
