I am still curious what this new role for Bosa is all about. I don't think dropping him back in pass coverage is utilizing his skills, but we'll see what Staley has in mind.
FWIW, Popper thinks Justin Jones has a break-thru year rushing QB's. So there's your push up the middle.

Bosa dropping back is only part of disguise to send someone else in a gap… keep that O guessing. Im ok with it if it works

        Kicker.

Games are won or lost sometimes on the leg of your kicker.

And our kicker is brand new, unproven and untested.

The likely chance that there will be bumps on the road and growing pains this season, is what scares me.

Will it cost a playoff loss, or missing the playoffs, or several last second heart breakers?

Hopefully we luck out and Vizcaino has an amazing rookie year and the kicker position is finally solved.

Yeah. Good point. Vizcaino hasn't shown he's more accurate than Badgley exactly. He definitely has a stronger leg and all things being equal that may be why he won the job.

He missed a 46 yarder in the last preseason game

A Kicker's leg, knee, ankle, foot, maybe even arch, toes, toe nails. The snap, the placement, the psychology of the kicker at impact. One little thing wrong along the process with angles or forces, all goes astray. I'm not worried. :whistlin:

I agree. Our kicking (and entire Special Teams) issues have me worried as well.

I sure wish Viz had actually won the kicking position this summer (and not just "won" by being a hair better than the Money Badger).

The only sack he got last year was in the game against the Falcons. Jones is not a good pass rusher though. In his 3 years with the team he is exactly what his pre-draft report has said about him regarding that. He's not good at it just like just like Tillery isn't great at defending the run.

This keeps the o-line guessing, keeps Bosa fresher, and keeps our defense less predictable. I can imagine allocating two guys on Bosa when he's expending less energy stunting back and you overload other guys towards the gap said o-line left open. It could be Derwin and a DE going up against slower G's and Centers.

                    vs

Bosa is coming so just slide protection over. Rinse and repeat until he tires out.

Jones must have shown improvement in practice. Popper is a smart dude. I trust his judgment.

                        MARSUPIALS!!!!

                        cuz they're fast....

But also, too many injuries to overcome, especially the on the oline. That's pretty much it....
The TPB makes plans....And Jim Harbaugh laughs...

Final prediction: Latham OT, Colson LB, Sainristil CB,Rice WR, Zinter OG, Nourzad OC, MacLachlan TE, Vidal RB, Lovett DT

These are the weaknesses of Justin Jones from his scouting reports coming out of college. The bold to confirm about his pass rush.

                          Cover1.net https://www.cover1.net/scouting-repo...arolina-state/

                          Weaknesses:
                          • Doesn’t have an arsenal of pass-rush moves (very basic)
                          • Can play stiff and too high
                          • Mental processing is inconsistent when reading the backfield/blocks
                          • Burst was great at the Senior Bowl – inconsistent on film
                          • Relies on power moves
                          NFL.com https://www.nfl.com/prospects/justin...a-e6b7ff2e09ec

                          Weaknesses
                          • Would like to see him do a better job of leveraging his gaps with better hand usage
                          • He's strong but not big
                          • Looks smaller than his measured size
                          • Doesn't really hold the point of attack like a gap control tackle and lacks the get-off of a penetrator
                          • Tight-hipped, straight line mover
                          • Can be juked along interior
                          • Slow to change direction in mirroring cutting running backs
                          • Sticks to blocks just a little longer than desired
                          • Offers very little pass rush
                          Bleacherreport.com https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-chargers-pick

                          NEGATIVES

—Made a lot of plays due to competing alongside two other great defensive linemen, Bradley Chubb and B.J. Hill.

—Sidesteps blockers and puts himself out of position.

—Plays with a stiff lower body, especially in his hips and ankles.

—Has a slow start off the ball and lets blockers get into his frame.

                          Doesn't offer much ability as a pass-rusher and is a two-down lineman.
These are exactly what I've seen in his 3 years as a Charger.

If he can get sacks, more of them, like he did in the Atlanta game from last year, we'll know if he improved or not.
