  • Better O-line will make Ekeler really shine. He is so slippery that instead of making DL miss, he will be making safeties miss and getting chunks

This. Also save wear and tear getting to that second level unscathed.

That would qualify him to ride on the bus for special needs kids!

Allen has three years left on his contract.

After next season, he has a cap number of 21.7M with 5.4M of dead money. Thus, cutting him frees up 16.3M of cap space. After that season (going into 2024), he has a cap number of 25.8M, 2.7M in dead money, and thus cutting him saves 23.1M in cap space.

Unless Keenan manages to have the two best seasons of his career in 2022 and 2023, he will not be playing 2024 under his current deal. There is a real chance he won’t be a Charger come opening day 2023.

Personally, I think they will first ask to restructure his deal to say $12 mill a year if he has another season Like this year. If not, saving $16.4 million starts to look attractive even after next season.

How much of his salary could be converted to bonus money. If he keeps having 100+ receptions a year he will keep getting paid appropriately for that production or at least he should.

                • He has a lot of guaranteed money left currently. But after this year, I believe there is only 5.4M of guaranteed money. And after 2023, that number is 2.7M.

Next year will be very telling with where he’s at and what they want to do.

                  • A money saving replacement for Williams is still gonna take a receiver probably 2 years to even approach MW’s past season stats. Keenan Allen lucky choices are rare. I’m gonna hate on TT if he takes the attitude that a suitable receiver will do in order to upgrade some other position. After seasons end next year, TT’s ass is gonna be on the line. He best remember that before he goes tweaking currently well manned player positions, no matter the cost.

                    • At this point I’m buying the idea that Williams and Herbert have chemistry which adds to Williams’ value for the Chargers. Let’s go ahead and get him resigned. It’ll be more cap friendly to do that than it will be to franchise him.

Continuity! Give Herbert a break (at wide receiver position). Took awhile…four years, MW now a 1,000+ yrd. receiver for the Chargers. Pay the man! Be like a Jerry Jones. 13 mil over the cap. Whatever it takes! Build! Now. Keep Williams! Work on defense. Get the best cornerback at #17. Go FA big time to stop the run. This time…do better at picking older FA talent. TT has had some bad luck at FA. Thank gawd for TT’s Slater draft pick. Oh…btw…Dump Murray. Get a conditional 7th rounder for the guy. Seriously. Cut your losses.

Thanks for the clarification - and yes the Chargers really can't do anything until after the 2022 season. And based on his 2021 season, he can still play

So maybe get MW signed to a long term deal - backload it so that if you adjust KA down the road, Mike Williams can get paid more down the road
