I agree. As Chargers fans, we have an emotional attachment to Joey.

But no semi-intelligent Rams fan would even consider that trade. Donald is a far superior player, if we’re being honest.
Our quarterback is a golden god.

RT - Having solid bookends would be nice. We can do that now though with Feiler, and try Jaimes at LG. Otherwise Maxx Crosby might feast against Storm.

IDL - A run stuffing DT could be a boon for this defense. But this seems like a relatively fixable problem still.

The one thing this franchise has struggled with for the longest time is KICKER! It feels like Carney was the last franchise kicker we had.
Good teams go out and get a reliable franchise kicker, and those are the teams that win close games in the waning seconds of the 4th quarter.
Vinatieri was a pain in Manning and the Colts butts, so when they got the chance they signed him. NE rolled with Gostkowski after that.
Crosby has been the guy for the Packers with Aaron Rodgers. Justin Tucker is the guy for the Ravens who always seem to be in the playoff mix.
Gotta find a guy for the Chargers for the Herbert era, so Herbert doesn't have to always be relied upon. No more Kaeding Playoff choke kicks.

Is there a chance we’re overreacting about our run defense because our best run defender is injured?
I think Jones is the 2nd piece. The Joseph-Day. Still need the 1st piece.

True but in the Chefs game Myhommy had 49 yards rushing and half of those came in garbage time. So take that out and the Chefs "only" ran for 135. I agree that IDL is a priority but the Chefs was not as bad as it seemed.

126 yards is not good…it would rank among the bottom 10 teams in the league if it stuck to that average.

Washington ran for 126 yards against us like you said…and it’s ran for 87 yards and 78 yards in its other games.

In the 3 prior years that Jones was healthy, the Chargers run defense has consistently ranked among the worst teams in the league at stopping the run.

This idea that our run defense will be fixed once Justin Jones gets back needs to stop. Unless he somehow switched talent and skills with Aaron Donald while he was out.

Justin Jones is NOT prime Jamal Williams.
Tom Telesco’s Results in 9 years as Chargers GM:

            - 69-74 record
            - 0 division titles in 9 yrs as GM
            - Worst record among all active GMs with same tenure
            - 6th worst winning percentage among all active GMs overall
            - 2 playoff wins despite elite QB all 9 yrs
            - Team still has the same weaknesses (Oline and run defense) that it had when hired as GM in 2013
            - Consistently puts together horrible depth, expects starters to never miss games

Staley’s defense invites the run. Why? Because it forces opponents to convert multiple 3rd downs per drive. The league average for 3rd down conversions is 40%. Statistically, this forces more punts and FG attempts than TDs.

So if our run defense seems a little weak, it’s because it’s designed that way. Yes, we would benefit with another quality IDL, but the situation isn’t as bad as the numbers indicate.

RT so we can be unpredictable instead of running left all the time. Who can’t blame them.

AD isnt much older than Bosa though right? Joey is good, but A-a-ron is AWESOME! I hate to say it but I'd take A-A-Ron over Joey.

                      A. Donald will be a bit ahead of J. Bosa for their career.
But, at this time, I would take JB.

Answer to the poll : J. Williams still available ?

He only played the first half.
Really missing his physicality to go with Linval.

                          No.

It consistently ranks as average, ~17th in both total yards and yards per carry. All aspects of the defense in 2019 and 2020 were average except the situational and critical down defense, which was horrid.

Justin Jones is our best run defender. Of course the run defense will improve when he is back.
