I want to thank Cleveland for pushing Ekelar into the end zone. If we had run out the clock and kicked a field goal, we would have missed it and lost. That’s a 100% guaranteed miss. 100%.

Seriously I think Chargers fans have PTSD. Just because two kickers we released ended up doing well after doesn’t mean they all have. There have been more kickers who remained hot garbage after Chargers released them than ones that became good.

Viz hasn’t reached Sturgis or Badgley level yet. Right now until you have a certifiable better option available, you stick with what you have and hope he weather the storm. Otherwise all you’ll do is continue cycling through kickers.

What’s a certifiable better option? There’s not Justin Tucker caliber kickers just available in the middle of the season. But there have been many cases where teams pick up an unproven kicker mid season from free agency and then he kicks well through the remainder of the season.

Badgley was one for us.

You mentioned Koo and he was a mid season pick up for the Falcons and his only previous experience kicking in the NFL was with the Chargers when he was 3 of 6.

But the Falcons didn’t say “No we’re not gonna cut our shitty kicker Bryant because there’s no proven kickers available” instead they cut Bryant and took a gamble on Koo and now look how well that’s paid off for them.

Verity could very well be the next Falcons Koo story but for the Chargers.

I might say give the kid some time after calming down a bit. Hes a rookie first year guy (i dont count his limited time at 9rs). He has something technically wrong that may be correctable. His 2 eps were almost identical. Go back to practice and so simulated game time kicks to drive it to automatic. I think Staley will make it a focus. Its correctable.

So far Staley's been right about damn near everything. If he wants to give the kicker time, I trust he knows what he's doing.
