I used to say, when asked if I were Irish, “no, but I’ve a fifth of scotch in me”.
I don’t drink much anymore, so the line doesn’t work as well. And truth be told, the mac’s of yore were once from Ireland.
I have it bilaterally! I had a major surgery on my right hand in 2012, which stopped the progression of the disease in that hand.
I first got symptoms in my left hand (the fretboard hand for playing guitar) about 10 years after it started on my right (strumming) hand. So far, the progression is super gradual, and it's not interfering with playing guitar yet. Every day is an adventure, and I'm grateful I can play at all after that circular saw accident I had in 2016!

Sorry to hear this as a guitar player. It would suck not being able to do that as one of your hobbies. I do some as well.
I have a buddy who has a buddy who had surgery on both hands having this same thing and posted him pics shortly after the surgery. It wasn't pretty. Glad it helped you.
I actually don't know how that guy is doing now, I'll have to ask. It's been at least a year.

I have that classic zig-zag scar across my right palm, and my pinky finger is permanently bent (frozen) at the middle knuckle. Luckily, this impacts guitar playing not-at-all.
It's my left hand I have to be concerned about. So far, the Dupuytren's progression is both slow, and minimal. There are some new treatment options available that I'll talk with a specialist about, and see what I can do to optimize my chances for playing as long as possible.
But that circular saw accident 6 years ago... gutted the inside of my left index finger, from the middle knuckle, to the tip. Lots of nerve damage, although sensation has returned to some parts of the finger, and is coming back in other parts. No sensation at the tip, so I can't feel the string beneath the finger. Yet. It complicates playing some-- I do more looking at the fretboard while I'm playing so I can SEE if my finger is on the string (particularly for chords like Am, C, and Dm, where the index finger is being tucked all the way to the high E or B strings. I've learned to compensate in various ways. Like I said, it's an adventure!
