Right tackle Joe Barksdale practiced Friday.
That was expected. It's not news.
It's just a whole lot quicker than, at the moment, saying who on the Chargers offensive line is actually available.
Four of the five starters were not on the field Friday during the period of practice open to reporters. Three of those four haven't practiced all week. Left tackle King Dunlap (concussion), left guard Orlando Franklin (ankle), center Chris Watt (groin) and right guard D.J. Fluker (ankle/chest) were sidelined. But yes, Barksdale was out there.
This is not the first time in recent years the Chargers line has been shorthanded.
What's rare is the degree and how soon.
The entire line started Sunday against the Vikings. Barksdale was the only Charger to play every offensive snap. Watt aggravated a Week 2 groin injury in the first quarter and did not return. Franklin was carted off the sideline with a second-quarter ankle injury and did not return. Dunlap exited the game in the fourth quarter with a concussion; when he suffered it is unclear, but he did not return.
Fluker was a full participant in practice Wednesday.
He was downgraded to limited Thursday before being absent entirely Friday.
To navigate what has become a borderline crisis, the Chargers are expected to promote guard-tackle Michael Ola from their practice squad. He started 12 games last year for the Bears, appearing at every position but center. Earlier this week, the team promoted rookie tackle Tyreek Burwell and signed free-agent center J.D. Walton.
San Diego (1-2) has lost two straight games.
It hosts Cleveland (1-2) on Sunday.
