If Becton is performing well and shows potential I think you go with him, with Starks aka Chocalate Clary what you see is what you get he isn't going to improve at this stage in his career. Starks as a veteran has the smarts to use angles and tape study of opponents to position himself, but his body isn't allowing him to get there. There is a reason Starks stayed a FA long as he did.
you're assuming Starks is going 110% all out trying to win a job like some rookie- and what you see of that is not enough. The guy started all 16 games at LT for Pitt last year and has started on a couple Super Bowl teams and is not "competing" for a job in the same way a youger player is. The team knows what they have in him- a savvy older vet they can count on in real games.

Or to get Rivers killed in a preseason game.

He's out there competing for not only a starting spot but on the 53 man roster.

It was absolutely perfect by the left tackle. He’s running the guy by him 10-plus yards deep, and there I am standing there. But I can fix that. That’s already been fixed right now. And you start to see there’s the difference between a gimme touchdown to Vincent Brown or a sack-fumble.”
              .
That quote shows great leadership by Rivers. For him to stand up and take the blame says a lot about his character as a team leader (and I'm not sure if he is actually to blame or just taking the blame for Starks).

I'm no expert, but in my opinion...Harris isn't beating out anyone. At all.

He's the first cut on the team, IMO.
"...of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

Not going a 110% I don't buy that Starks stated his goal to make the team and to be the starter, and Dunlap is running 1st team. Starks Aka Choclate Clary was cut\release by Pittsburg twice, they brought him back a second time because their OL was depleted by injuries, Big Ben was taking hits, what saved him most of the time was his mobility and we know Phillip Rivers isn't mobile. So you are say Starks is so comfortable with his new team and feels he doesn't have to put forth a 110%? You honestly think Mike McCoy wants a guy who isn't giving a 110% playing on his team. Starks aka Chocolate Clary is giving his best and it isn't good enough to beat King Dunlap who isn't giving a 110%.
