There are previous cases in football (but not the NFL, insofar as I've seen), but most occur in baseball and softball (players and coaches getting hit in the chest by a hard batted ball),

This is also a concern for those with coronary artery disease, which I have. I pitch in softball and if I get hit in the chest region there is a danger of have a coronary thrombosis developing if the impact causes a rupture inside one of my coronary arteries. It's something I'm acutely aware of but I will continue to play as long as my reflexes are fast enough to knock down a ball before it hits me.

I read that post and it really started to hit home.

Not the severity of what you posted but guilt as a fan.

While the player was on the field fans were already screaming in posts why is it taking so long for everything and blaming the NFL.

It made me feel like a hypocrite. Why ?

The sad reality is we will continue to support this game even if that dude f'n died.

The Super Bowl will not be cancelled nor the playoffs if he dies.

I (we) have no room to criticize the NFL but we will.

We created this NFL monster and sadly our priorities are so screwed up that nothing is going to change until the fans who foot this bill say otherwise.

I dont want to see discussions on Pro/anti vax. You can already see its creating the beginning of a shitstorm. Lets cool the Jets folks. Lets try and focus the positivity towards Damar. Yes there is some guilt as a fan. We derive enjoyment from a sport that can mangle bodies physically and have life long consequences or significantly shorten lives.

I remember the cheat thumpers criticizing LT when he went out of bounds rather than absorb a hit. He was smart

I am glad the players "kneeling thing" did not come up yet. I guess I just did but you know what I mean. Tough calls to make and why I myself could never run a Bolts site. It would be anarchy 101 and everyone would split.

Yes, I know, but in retrospect and in-the-moment, the players that partook in that game did not truly know his status or extent of injury if going by the quotes within the article so I felt it was merited to share, particularly given the fact that they somehow resumed play. And in part, I now wonder if this moment gradually increased Barry Sanders' questioning of his own mortality and perhaps led to his eventual decision to retire earlier than most expected. I know that there was discord between he and the Lions organization, but perhaps in some conscious or subconscious part of him, this incident had some bearing on his future decisions.

The drama here and the little jabs at each other almost always stop this place in its tracks. Members log off. They dont post. I see it right there in the data as its happening. Like Neo sees the Matrix. lol

Lets try and keep our discussions civil everyone. I would appreciate it. It always takes something real serious like this to happen to bring to light that so many of us need to refine our communication skills just a little bit. Its ok to have differing opinions....but passive aggressiveness and aggressive communication never really ends well while debating matters online. Forums or social media.

We are a way more emotional country than we ever have been. Many who are attached to internet communities wear their emotions on their sleeves etc...so often nowadays its doom and gloom. Anger and rage sell. MSM promotes that and almost comes off like its trying to create division.

I am a unity guy. The power here is in our members. You guys. Lets not put that power in my hands and force me to slap members around. I dont like ruling like that. I am you and you guys are me. We are one. A team. Lets remember that. Its ol to disagree with each other...but lets try and do it with a little more Aloha.
