I’m starting to lose faith in Staley. With Bobby Ross and Marty, this team showed up and competed every game. With Staley, it seems like they disappear 1 game out of 4.
It appears the Chargers brass will just hire another dude with zero experience as a HC so why bother? I said before this season started that TT has brought in the right people to bolster this team. Good enough players to be real contenders and if we fail, it's on the coaching staff.I still feel that way. If this staff can't get wins with these players, they need to be replaced. But please, not with another guy that's never been a HC!
Putting Herbert out there is sketchy and on Staley for allowing that to happen. However injuries are generally not on the coaching staff which tried to add depth across the board. It’s far more a process than any of us excepted. Things have gone terribly wrong. Wu said flashpoint was pick 6 against KC. That WAS on coaching staff for not recognizing Everett was frantically asking out of the game after two outstanding, but punishing plays. I agree. As much as any one play could signify “what could have been season” that was it.
For that, changes in coaching needed. Starting with firing OC Lombardi. There has to be more on the field awareness. Instantaneous resolutions to blown flags & challenges.
Thoughts on Dan Quinn? I bet he will get another look before long. Forever haunted by 28-3 but a much more realistic option than Payton.
Also blowing a 28-3 Super Bowl lead is very Chargers-esque so he would fit in perfectly.
If they do go another direction for HC next year. I pray for an experienced offensive minded HC. Even though Payton is under contract, I would think they make a hard play for him if they do indeed go another direction.

Couldn't agree more. Somebody like Marty; a tough-minded, no-nonsense, no "analytics" HC who doesn't always have a stupid smile on his face and gets this team back to BASIC fundamental football.

We saw this during the preseason. I know it was the scrubs, but if they can't execute basic fundamentals, my argument was, what makes you think anyone else on the team can? Tackling was a joke and still is. Can't run block. Hell, can't run, period. At some point we knew some of these guys were going to have to be the next man up.
Not the time of year to be refocusing on fundamentals, that's for the preseason. Seems our coaching staff just ignored it.
the worst part about Norton’s pressures. I believe he only had 15 passes to protect. So 8 pressures on 15 passes, is beyond horrendous if true. These coaches are failing this team at the moment, and it starts at the top with Staley.
If Payton turns his nose up on us we could also look to Vic Fangio. He seems to know this defense since he is the OG of this defense scheme.
Ya he's my choice at this point.
his HC record has to be considered under the circumstances of the qbs he had to work with.
His Denver teams always played us tough.
with our personnel, it would be a natural transition.
Staley to stick as DC??
Pipe dream perhaps im open to VF.
