Question: on the failed 4th down attempt to Mike, was Herbert looking for a flag on purpose with that throw?
thinking he had to throw asap and no one was open?
When his ribs heal more, we really need to consider using more RPOs on those crucial short downs.

It was clearly PI, the opposing cb had his back to Herbert and running into MW as he was trying to catch the ball. It ended up being ok but it was a typical miss from the refs in a critical moment. But oddly enough they saw a roughing the passer when Brissett flopped like lebron. Typical nfl.

I was out of town camping in the mountains for this game. But ever the fan, I headed down Sunday to the Harrah's casino sports book to watch with me in my Derwin and my wife sporting her Keenan jersey. The place was pretty packed and to no surprise we were the only Charger fans there judging from the jerseys. So the game progressed.....big hole early, clawed our way back.....sea sawish and boom Alohi gets the pick. When we were held to 4th down with 70 seconds left it seemed a no brainer to punt. The Eagles fan next to me could not believe it when we lined up to go for it and neither could I. After the fail just about everybody within 20 feet looked at us and shook their heads. As Cleveland went for the figgie my wife was so pissed off she walked out. We all know the outcome but HELL Brandon.......just what the hell......

The six brownies fans at a table just looked at me as if I were a fool and I felt like I deserved it. No way I felt like a winner. Just horrible coaching.........

it's like every opposing wr has way too much cushion and is very wide open. Can't all be because of Joey.
Staley needs to deliver on that side of the ball THIS season, bottom line, or he really isn't worth having as a HC.
The other problem is that Jackson isn’t where he was yet before the surgery. My other hope is that with a completely revamped defense this offseason, it really is a gelling issue that will get better as the season progresses versus what happened last year. I feel like you saw its potential in the Raiders and KC game. And then the wheel fell off the following week.

            Keenan NEVER Tweeted
            WTF are we doing.
The imaginary meeting with Staley on Monday did NOT occur.

Exactly my feeling. Never felt so embarrassed and frustrated after a win.
I blame myself, but geez, it's hard to wear a jersey outside sometimes.

And you're also saying I don't trust my defense to get a stop if the offense fails to convert.

So I will surrender and play field position conservative style and hope my defense can hold up. And then you play prevent soft defense and give up underneath and hope that works to hold them off. Likely giving up a FG try anyway. So you might as well Bolt the fuck up and go for it.

                  Staley say No Surrender.
                  I can handle the smoke.
                  We are playing to win.
Which is fine, but the 4 plays previously also scream surrender when you're prioritizing the clock-running and having them use TO vs prioritizing 1st downs.
so a little consistency between HC and OC is all I ask.

Rivers must have taught Staley the ol' Manspoon technique to caress the angry Tiger.

I am not on the fire Staley bandwagon. Way too early. Lets see what he does this year.

But his decision yesterday was stupid and he got lucky, nothing more nothing less.

What is starting to irritate me though is the all talk and no action....the new age coach, who likes to think he is smarter than everyone else ... talks a really big game....got hired because he is supposed to be some sort of defensive savant...yet his defences always get gashed on the ground and through the air ...and reside in the bottom of the league in yardage and points against

Keep in mind, when most new coaches are hired they are coming to bad teams, with bad records, and bad situations which is why the previous coach is being replaced. Staley was given one of the sweetest coaching opportunities in the NFL....a talented roster that under achieved and a top 3 young franchise QB to build around that the Peytons of the world are dying to coach.

I am glad you pointed that out

All those that are applauding the uber agressive call on 4th and 1 are not mentioning how conservative the playing calling always is to put them in that situation. When Gilman intercepted that ball if Staley "wanted to keep his offensive on the field" they should have driven down the field but were stalled by the same old predictable, conservative play calls on early downs that always stall and put them in these situations.

Should we call it selective agressiveness?

He certainly had the good fortune to inherit Herbert. I'm thinking a lot of the supposed talent he inherited was pretty overrated. It certainly was on the D. The D under him was awful last year and struggling this year. I do see signs it is getting better, but the results are not close where they need to be. In the end, he'll be judged by how we do the rest of the year. I still think we will gradually improve, even without Bosa.
