He played like shit 3 of those 5 years. Year 3 just as bad if not worse than the first two. Yes - He was great game one in NO, true. its just no one knew if his shoulder would heal well enough to ever play at an elite level. We didn't trade him, he was a free agent. He had contract offers from the Chargers and Miami but they weren’t fully guaranteed. Chargers weren’t going to franchise tag him so he was free to do what he wanted. NO was the only team out of 32 that offered him a huge guaranteed contract, its not like the Chargers were the only team concerned he might not come back the SME. And VOILA - he miraculously and instantly realized his purpose was divined by God to rebuild / save NO after Katrina.

Big fat guaranteed contracts will do that lol. I don’t mind him signing the only guaranteed big contract at all, its a business. but cmon brother Brees - mission from God is your story? I kind of soured on after how he played that PR, I’m in the minority i know.

Justin Herbert, in 48 career games (3 full seasons under the 16-game format) is:

5th in passing yardage in franchise history (13,816). He's behind Rivers, Fouts, Hadl and Humphries. He'll pass Humphries next season. Herbert leads all of these QBs in several career stats: yards per game; QB rating; INT percentage (lowest) and completion percentage (67). His TD percentage of 4.8 leads all of them except Rivers (5.2). Brees is the No. 6 leading passer in franchise history. Herbert leads him in all these statistical categories as well.

I think #5 is in the bag.
Furthermore, Fouts never had a QB like Tomlinson.

Agreed. Stupid, stupid move to let him walk for nothing. It should haunt AJ for the remainder of his natural life.

Probably, but I can't say for certain that if Rivers had been paired with a coach as good as Sean Payton he would not have been as good as Brees.

Right on the Breesians have entered the fray. robe:

Where’s Linkster and the crazy Canadian Flutie Fanatics? Good times nice to have a little breathing room for a minute.

I hope we smash on the Broncos and their defense.

So let's be real in the here and now the QB rating on the Chargers all time list is: Herbert #1 Brees #2 Rivers #3 Fouts #4..... These are facts. I still believe maybe for sentimental reasons Fouts was better than Rivers but again that could be for sentimental reasons......... Now let's go get win #11 in denver, and display the full talents of our all time greatest QB, Mr. Justin Herbert!

Sigh wrong in 2004 Drew Brees lead the Chargers to a 12-4 record! He posted the 3rd best QB rating in the league. Keep dreaming Brees was a better QB than Philip Rivers. Also Miami wanted to sign Brees as well. I would have rather seen Brees as our starter against the pats po game when the team was rebuilt than Rivers 10 out of 10 times.

I am more sentimental to the Fouts ERA too. Air Coryell was the most exciting important thing to hit the NFL in over a decade, we all had those hideous weirdly loud yellow (supposed to be gold) Charger Power tshirts, we all sang shitty SAN DIEGO SUPER CHARGERS disco songs, and the Murph literally shook on game days. That team had gone thru the darkest depths in the Svare years, ironically it was Tommy Prothro and Co that set up the roster for Coryell to inherit and light the league on fire. Then Gene Fucking Klein traded or sold off every great piece that wanted to be paid fairly. Dick! People that hate Spanos obviously were asleep during Klein.

I was never nearly as attached to Rivers, albeit he was part of the long awaited resurrection of the franchise for awhile. but he was a better QB and he put in enough time to deserve credit. I don’t have a Rivers hat, I have a MFIC hat.

I think Herbie is already the best, I never saw what this kid has in either of them, nor Hadl (i dug that guy too - he was a wild gun slinger). He doesn’t yet have the cumulative career stats, but I already think he is the best QB they have ever had.

I knew that seeing Brees mentioned would get a reaction from blue!
