Eugene, OR gets some snow in the winter, not much. But it gets a hella bunch of rain and while it is not super cold, it's a lot colder than So Cal in the winter and is perpetually overcast. This is the environment that Herbert grew up playing in. Unless it's 20 below zero with raging winds, I believe Herbert can handle a little winter weather.

Fans of opposing teams would come into the forums and state our team was dogshit playing in the COLD being a warm weather team.

As fans we did not take that stuff lightly so we embarked on our own fact finding mission to find out if we played worse or better in the cold. To defend our Bolts. We were being called out as fans.

So the forum gurus embarked upon a quest for the truth not colored by anyone but us and historical game time temp data.

Now does the fact the cold did not negatively affect the data mean TODAYS team will play just as well ?

Obviously NOT....... but it was data to show the forum invaders they were full of shit

Hell - we were not sure ourselves until we did the research.

When did we last play KC or Denver in the PO in Jan? Yes we do play KC and Den during the regular season. But from Sept-Nov it is not cold. It's late Dec and then Jan
where the cold can set in. How many times have we played Den in the snow? KC? We simply do not know how this team will react in cold weather. And no we have no
real history of playing in cold weather. Not sure what *****et is talking about. We have played well in the Mid-West and East Coast in the early games, but that doesn't
          qualify as cold weather.

A snow game and a -30F game are not the same thing. I don’t think it was even snowing that freezer bowl day during the game. Being from San Diego, I laughed when I first moved to MI and they would tell me 20 isnt bad but -10 is. I’m like - what, freezing is freezing, thats ridiculous.

uh no; 20 isn’t bad and a windy -10 hurts.

I like our pass offense design for cold weather and Herbie’s rocket arm in wind. Wind won’t even have a chance to tickle his rocket blasts before they hit their target.

I'm not from Missouri, but show me the data. In particular this team has not played enough games in cold weather. Doesn't mean we won't play well, we just don't know.

No it wasn't snowing during the freezer bowl. Just wind chill of 59 below. Ridiculous. They shouldn't have played that game.

Michigan man, I had to be there in February one year and it was 9 below when I landed. Walking from the airport to the Uber my face actually hurt. Next day it was 25 degrees and people were wearing shorts.

Cold weather games do not make for great passing. The football becomes a rock. The conditions on the field matter. Snow can turn to slush, and then ice. So I don't necessarily agree with you. We really have no real data for playing in such conditions. As for the ICE bowl in Cincy year's ago. Many Charger fans believe we would have won the game under different weather circumstance. Well that appears to be wrong as well. Cincy had spanked us in sunny SD early that year. Certainly the weather played a major factor. But there was no guarantee we would have won. We also went from 80+ F overtime game in Miami to sub zero temps in one week time. That didn't help our cause either.

I heard one NFL player say that 20 degrees was preferable to 'warm' weather.

Big guys running around, they have a smaller surface to body ratio and the 'cold' helps them to lose heat.

I can't remember the last Charger game played with snow on the field... Cleveland in 2004?

As someone who was formerly living in Oregon, and hoping to go back to Oregon, I can tell you that the cold weather there isn't as bad as people make it out to be. The state of Oregon can be just as warm as the warm states, when it is in the warm time of the season. You need some cold. But I guess it's all depending on your lifestyle and activity. I'm in Florida, and I can't stand the constant high temperatures and the humidity here. Being somewhere where you experience 4 seasons is best.

My mother and her siblings - my aunts and uncles - were raised in Eugene. The biggest issue for me about the Willamette Valley is the dearth of sun.
