Yes, spreading out a defense helps the run game... no doubt. When teams still over-committed to the run, Norv would have PR hit someone deep... or Gates over the vacated middle. Norv loved to stretch a defense vertically. Coach Walsh used to stretch a defense horizontally. I suspect Moore will make it hard on defenses... and do both.
But you have to have the players to do it both ways. Now the Chargers have those players... IMO, DD will be a big part of that. He can actually do both.
I have a strong sneaking suspicion that one of the reasons we did not draft any TEs, is that MW, KA, and Palmer are all good run blockers.
Guyton is coming off reconstructive knee surgery and while the return rate from ACLs is high, we don't know much about where he is in his recovery and what the lingering effects will be. Davis will be active each game because he will be our returner. If all our other receivers are healthy, than Guyton might end up inactive some games simply due to numbers and having Davis available as a speed/deep threat.
We keep hearing that QJ is a smart, hard-working, character guy.
If so-- and I'm not doubting it-- there's every reason to believe that QJ will work hard to improve as a blocker.
At the same time, I think it's reasonable to ask how a player with all the tools to be a good blocker got THIS far without becoming better at it than Johnston is. It's a little baffling.
With DD, I don’t know if I would throw him the ball very often, but I would have him out there 10 plays a game running 40 yard sprints just to back the D up. And maybe he gets free deep once in a while. He has speed, use it. Same with Guyton. Force the safeties deep, make the LBs go deeper to cover.
Just stop the 6” Lombo specials.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
The Wasted Decade is done.

Ooh! Strong post - DD sneaks onto the actives via return duties, numbers push Guyton inactive, and DD slowly gets a play here play there and before anyone notices, he’s now #5 and Guyton is just forgotten!

well played - a legit possible scenario.
Depends. If we carry 6 WRs and if Guyton is a gunner. I've read someone here say he was a gunner on punts but I hadn't noticed.

It's called UPGRADING...and as Martha Stewart says, "it's a GOOD thing."
