Hey, I've got an idea - how about we quit worrying about what is best for DJ and his "Safety" rankings vs what is best for the overall defense and overall team. He doesn't play traditional Free Safety, so how about we just stop comparing him to a pure FS instead of playing this game of fretting about perceived difference(s)? The combined league voted and affirmed he is a pro-bowl player. They get it, even if many here don't.Originally posted by WindsorUK View Post
This is the point I made a while back.
Put him in 1 spot and let him be the best player in the league at that position, whether it be FS or SS.
At least we could wait for a season he's not voted to the PB before we tie him to the bumper and drag him around the parking lot?.Justin Herbert 2026 MVP Watch

Roster spot opens up - so let the speculation commence:
My initial thought was Leonard Floyd
Edge is another position besides safety that needs depth with a legitimate veteran as we found out last year. Injuries aside, Mack played too many snaps for his age.

That's a mighty big "if"...Originally posted by WindsorUK View Post
Out DL looks quite deep for a change and Kendricks will certainly be an upgrade to Tranquil.
If Murray figures it out and Henley becomes what we think he should be, our D might finally be solid.
(I say, simplify Murray's role: "See the ballcarrier...tackle the ballcarrier...stay clean"...)

Actually, I like Derwin at FS...plays well there...seems to me when he's away from the LOS his vision and nose for where the play is going is better...Originally posted by dmac_bolt View Post

So, both Derwin and K9 had their best seasons in the Gus defense...hmmmm...what did Gus do differently to bring out the best in these two, that Staley is doing differently?Originally posted by Velo View Post
I think you make some good points. His best season IMO was his rookie year in Gus Brad's D. He lost two seasons, basically, to injury. Then he came back in Staley's D. I think he's capable and he might play more to his potential in a simpler defense. I've thought of that too. Staley has to figure this out.

Mack played too many snaps for a guy who spent his offseason rehabbing an ankle and couldn't run much. This year it's all conditioning, running and football prepOriginally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post

Simple. GBrad's defense was simple. That is the simple difference.Originally posted by Topcat View Post
