Over the cap has him at 14 mil dead cap if traded before June 1st. 7 mil dead cap if traded after June 1st.

Well then they are drafting an OT, because the type of talent at OT that’ll be available at #21 will exceed the type of talent available in most years in the 5-15 range of a typical draft, you are not going to find that same value at WR, DL, or Edge…tackles are hard to come by and this draft seems to be blessed with them, a lot of teams will get healthy at OT in this draft, unless they decide to reach for need elsewhere and drop the ball…

Correct but if released the numbers change.

        Here are the details:
        Pre 6/1 release-dead cap is $38M
        Pre 6/1 trade-dead cap is $14M
        Post 6/1 release-dead cap is $31M
        Post 6/1 trade-dead cap is $7M

Spoctrac also has the same. But you have to click on the dead cap number of $38M to see it in Spoctrac.

Why would they release him with no compensation when he likely has the most trade value out of the high salary players? If they want to move on from him, trading him seems the most practical route to do it.

I never said they would release him. I just gave the numbers because there seemed to be a dispute between the two sources.
In fact there isn't when one looks at the details.

The wr talent in the draft and in FA appears to be thin this year. So why would we cut Keenan? Herbert needs more weapons, not less. I know, I know, the cap…

if you do have to let him go, he looks like he’d be the top wr in FA. So he should be worth at least a 3rd in trade. He’s got a big contract, but it is expiring.

anyhow, my preferred solution would be to negotiate a contract extension with him and get his contract number down.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
              Let’s win one for Mack.

Son of a *****. Lance Zierlein is projecting Drew Sanders to #8th.

I wonder if Tyler has read this scouting report on Skoronski yet?

As I look at this pick, I recall that Kellen Moore + Joe Philbin got Tyler Smith ready to play LT when Tyron Smith went down. Impressive stuff. Can they get Paris Johnson ready to start from Day 1 at right tackle?
Wow, zierlein has johnson falling all the way to #21…right now johnson is the consensus first O-lineman taken in this draft, unless zierlein knows something we don’t know about, I can’t imagine so many OT needy teams passing on him…

Yes sir, we would have our next potential bigtime RB in the Chargers history tree, ie Muncie, Butts, Means, LT, Bijon!!!!!

Because Keenan doesn't fit the bill as a #1 WR anymore in comparison to the hot next gen WR's doing it these days!!!!!!! If you could replace his roster spot for a Jordan Addison or a Zach Charbonnet type of WR and save the cap space it could be a smart move and allow us to address other areas that need to be addressed to take us to the next level! You saw how far his talents took us this year, and it wasn't good enough. We need to stay young and fast in connection with Justin Herbert!!!!! I'm tired of everyone riding the coattails of Justin Herbert that goes for the HC as well! We need to infuse new star talent ability players that are young and fast! Keenan has had a nice run here but we need something new! If Staley fails next season you could be sure a Jim Harbaugh type coach would come in the following season and players like Keenan would be the first players shown the door out of here based on his results.

Conventional wisdom MVPs are QB-LT-Edge. We aren't using 21 on any of those for a depth player. I want BPA with a chance to start. It's hard to make that call without knowing who is cut, traded, allowed to leave.
My current favs are TE Kincaid, RB Robinson, LB Sanders but that can easily change by draft time. This is an excellent draft for edge, CB

The implosions on this team are so easy to predict every year.

Does anyone here think there's any chance we don't see Foster Sarell manning the right tackle spot next year?

Then what happens when he goes down? *BOOM* That's chargering, hoss.
