Agree, SJD was going to be cut anyway, soon enough. So the timing is very curious. Typically you release players when they're part of the problem rather than a part of the solution, so it's easy to draw that inference here.

Would release him even if he didn't want to go back. Dude is too slow and past his prime. They need to get younger on defense, hopefully our new GM will draft well.

I cannot see Kendricks retained next year. Not sure about just cutting lose starters now with 3 games to play though. Maybe they just want to play backups and generate some tape and are cutting obvious ones that will be cap cuts anyway.

Otherwise, players signed on for the year, they get paid well, ... play it out. its not just about you. everyone is disappointed in 2023 LAC.

If I had to wager, SJD being released has more to do with something in the locker room than him going up to management and them doing him a solid by releasing him.
