Extend and Restructure Allen for 1 year. You can save on the cap that way. I’m all for trading Bosa. $57 mil on 2 players is not good business.

I don't want to trade Bosa but if you're going to trade either Bosa or Mack, you might as well trade both and start over at edge in this deep edge class.
and use that cap to resign all the role players and a few FAs.

No, keep Mack. He was getting held by Jviille just as much as Joey, but didn’t throw his helmet. Also when did Joey ever take the entire D out to dinner? Mack is a difference maker, Joey is only in it for himself.

Joey is a spoiled kid. Pretty big though.
I'd like to see both taking games over in '23. Gimme 1 season with them in a healthy D front and my world will be a different place.

I'd love to see that for a year.

I love Mack too, and character goes a long way with me personally as a fan.
but I hate to see so much money tied up on defense with a QB like Herbert while our defensive genius HC continues to buy more defensive talent in FA.
My preference is to keep both for 2023, but if you trade Bosa, I'm fine with getting younger at both spots, especially if you buy the theory that the position itself is losing value due to refs not calling OL holding.
seriously, what's the point of having elite talent at edge if the NFL is going to neutralize them.
might as well move our assets elsewhere, preferably on offense.

It will be interesting what hte Chargers do the next week - and I would think this week we start to hear news post combine
                meaning players released
                contracts restructured

I haven't thought about it this way, but it makes sense. Do we get edge setters (solid but unspectacular) and then . . . . blitz to get pressure? That way the defense is less predictable?

What if the interior of the Dline were better - maybe that would help the Edge pass rushers

Maybe - but wouldn't the interior Dlinemen get held just as badly as the edge guys? Possibly even worse because it's harder to see what's happening on the inside. If you send LB's and DB's as blitzers in open space it would be more difficult to hold blatantly, and LB's and DB's are more nimble and (probably) better tacklers to wrap up the QB (ahem - Mahomes).

Now we have a new category of abilities to assess for drafting offensive linemen; HOLDING TECHNIQUE - who can cheat the best LOL.

I am open to whatever actually except for a lot of the status quo from last year. Defense could nto get off the field - so if Tranq or Fox aren't back - I don't think its like losing Rodney Harrison back int he day

Thats exactly what I've thinking about all offseason.
maybe a bunch of lower round, big bodies to beatup and wear down an Oline for a few quarters and use DBs to blitz on occasion. Just seems like such a waste to draft these stud athletes at edge jist to have qbs throw the ball before they gey a chance to beat the OTs and the few times they succeed, the OT will get away with holding or the DE will get flagged for touching the qb.
