Adios, El PN.
I've never seen such high self-worth paired with such low substance...
It really felt like he thought he deserved some sort of reverence from us.
We get that people look down on the Chargers because they've never won a Super Bowl...
I don't even expect casual fans to know about Sid Gillman and his coaching tree... or influence on the modern game.
But, shit! If you base your whole persona (and worth) on tradition, history, and folklore...
Wouldn't you be the least bit curious about the 1963 Chargers' training camp...?! That's an epic tale any fan can appreciate!
But no... he has some weird relationship going on with ESPN.
I'm 100% sure it has something to do with their skepticism about whether or not the transition from Rodgers to Love will be seamless.
He spotted Rote's and Hadl's name in the bi-line... and made an assumption about the article's premise.
Plus, you can tell the guy is not a reader. He prefers to have his folklore spoken down from on high...
LOL! His loss.
The most irritating myth of all is the tale of Chargers fan as "Fair-Weather".
Our fan-base has some... just as any other fan-base...
But look around... we have guys here that sat on concrete bleachers 60+ years ago.
We have zero World Championships to show for our efforts... yet, here we are.
Typically, we know more about our team than you know about your team.
Sometimes (looking at you PN) we know more about your team than you know about your team.
Fair-weather...? Get the fuck out of here!

PackerNation has been making a grand tour of other fan forums, its not just here.
In my minimal search, I know that he has been banned from at least two forums: Bears & Broncos.
(well, evidently three)

I thought the KC model was our goal? You know - all world offense and adequate defense? Cause that's what we should realistically be expecting out of this D - adequate. I doubt their going to mess with anyone's mind . . . . . . . . Just make key stops and get off of the field at the earliest opportunity. Let the O take over.
You're responding to a post regards pass rush which should be very good to excellent. We all know, you included, that QB pressure on passing downs is a major element of getting takeaways or forcing punts. We're not going to be perfect. Surprisingly effective? May be.

I’ll agree our fan base is more fair weather than a lot of NFL cities. at the height of the Coryell run, you couldn’t find a shirt that wasnt that weird neon yellow “charger power” color in the stands some games. In the depths we’ve seen well under half were Charger fans.
I pin that to (a) SD/now LA is a much more desirable place to live and offers unlimited other recreational options (b) Way more transplants here, and (c) lets be honest, its the SoCal way to be fickle and glom onto A-list trends and drop then if they fall to C-list.
Thats not us, we’re the die hard. but it is SoCal. So what - thats what it is.
I never saw a Charger game at Balboa, too young - but I saw several concerts at Balboa Stadium in the 70s before they tore it down … I can’t remember where anyone sat at those, if you get my drift. I remember one time as a teen, some older hippie dude gave me some iced tea he had made - man that was some funky tea.“Less is more? NO NO NO - MORE is MORE!”

I literally just got back from the beach just now! Mountains... Desert... Mexico...
Yesterday, I took a 30 minute drive out to a sneaky swimming hole with waterfalls... in a beautiful mountain setting.
Have I missed a few Chargers games over the years...? You bet your ass! That's called living. If you're so die-hard that you pass up an epic ski trip to Big Bear... or an epic off-road trip to Glamis... or an epic fishing trip to Mexico... you're not a great fan... you're a flawed human being.
I never saw a concert @Balboa Stadium... a little before my time. I did play a HS game in Balboa Stadium in the early 80's, though. That used to be San Diego High School's home field. Speaking of concerts... I did miss a Sunday night game to see Santana play @the Starlight Bowl. I think I ran into "Ice-T-Man" that night. LOL!
Don't ask me the Chargers score that night. I don't remember... and I don't care.
That's why I told PN... he was confusing fan-hood with quality of life.

If the Chargers had had better ownership, I think the fan base would've been less fair weather. Eugene Klein bought majority ownership from Barron Hilton in 1966 and traded JJ and Fred Dean when they had the audacity to ask for more money. That probably cost the franchise a couple of Lombardis. Then Klein sold the team to the Spanos family in 1984. I don't need to rehash all their failures as owners. The franchise was plagued with poor ownership most of its existence in San Diego. I don't think you can blame the fan base for not being enthusiastic about the Chargers when they weren't winning, which was most of the time, and for not agreeing to a tax-payer give away to the Spanoses. Klein and the Spanos never really endeared themselves to the community.

You have much higher expectations of our pass rush than I do. IMO we have 2 name guys, one of whom is an above average pass rusher at this stage of his career (Mack), and a fragile (mentally and physically) counterpart in Bosa. It feels to me like both of these guys (for different reasons) are riding on their reputations at this point. Neither one is a dominant pass rusher - someone we can count on to require double teams and take the game over when needed. And depth is a problem at edge. I can't believe TT will go into the season with what he has currently. I think he'll add a vet somewhere down the line.
As always I could be completely wrong . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I was on the stadium field 25? years later, helping a friend who ran the fireworks they’d fire off from the light ring when Chargers scored, also had a rolling contraption for halftime fireworks. Field was as hard as tile. man they let that place go in all ways in every aspect. BTW - that was the Indy Sunday Night game that Cro had 4 INTs, 6 INTs overall. In hindsight that was the apex of Cro’s entire career. He then set off on his second career of repopulating earth.“Less is more? NO NO NO - MORE is MORE!”

Let's see how long Patriots fans stick with them when they've strung together 10 losing seasons without playoff appearances. I remember when the Patriots had hardly any fans (The Grogan years). I think "fair-weather" is a manufactured term. At the very least, it happens to every team when they suck. I have 3 distinct San Diego sports memories...
1) Went to my first Chargers game in 1975... actually went to see the Rams. I heard a million stories about Fair-Weather Chargers fans... it was a prevalent narrative at the time. The Chargers were 2-10 that year. The Chargers fans I saw there that day were die-hard! I was surprised... not at all what I expected. At the tender age of 9... I learned that some people are just full of shit.
2) The party at the Murph after defeating Pittsburgh in 1994. I'm sure a lot of bandwagon fans were there... mixed in with die-hards. That enthusiasm was infectious. It shows a community hungry for a winner. Imagine had we beat the Niners... then followed that up with 4-5 years of good play. Is this really different than any other club? Anyone who says yes... probably full of shit.
3) I got to go see Game 3 of the 1998 NL Championship Series vs the Braves. I've been to a number of grand sporting and music events. Never ever have I seen a crowd as loud and rowdy as that crowd. Bobby Cox had trouble communicating on the field all day long. When Trevor entered and Hell's Bells started playing... you couldn't hear the person next to you. Even the Braves players stepped out of the dugout to marvel at the crowd. San Diego fans are apathetic...? Bullshit!Protect the QB
