Meh, most outside runs for long gains are due to D breakdowns, Dotson did what every NFL RB does in those situations, he ran like hell. Good on him and hope he makes the 53.

I doubt in such a case it would be Dotson. The majority of his yardage (thus far) has been bouncing it to the outside. Maybe we’ll see more between the tackle attempts and short passes to him to better evaluate. Two more preseason games.

I thought his first run was just as impressive as those two Tds. He ran right up the gut with a burst that I'm not used to seeing in our backs. When I saw that I kinda sat up in my chair a bit. Then of course he had the two long runs. Need to see if he can catch the football, block, and need to see some more inside running. I'd be looking at him as Ekeler's replacement.

Re: his speed, I went back and watched his highlights and in college he consistently ran away from everybody and definitely looks faster than 4.5. I think the issue is with the timing. When some scouts work these small school pro days they err on the side of caution in their numbers, so they won't stop the clock until the player is well through the line, which turns a 40 yard dash into more like a 45 yard dash. I bet that's what happened here because this kid is obviously fast as shit.

Gotta have a tier 1 and tier 2 fullback in the stable. That’s 6 RB’s total if you want Dotson. He’ll be put on the PS and called up if needed.

He has already shown more than Rountree has in 2-3 years or whatever it is. Rountree and his plodding into the pile for a 2 yard per carry average.

Dotson did run a 4.53 ish on his pro day however dude was churning his legs like a 4.43 dude. So perhaps to Rams' D made it appear he was more of a burner then he really is. He does surpass Roundtree.

Pro day times are typically faster than combine times.
                    Dotson wasn't at the combine.

Every RB we have, besides Ekeler is going to have to prove themselves. A new OC and new scheme is a blank slate. I don't think the RB from last season was as bad as some of their performance may indicate, but they haven't done much to win them any consideration for this year.

I think all the spots (except Ekelers), and even the number of roster spots for RB is up for grabs. Teams are known to carry as few as 3 RB and as many as 5 or 6. But it will depend on the guys we have not only at the RB position, and what they can do. Maybe we carry 1 fewer WR if guys like Moore wants to use Ekeler in the slot, but only if the other guys look both as runners, receivers and pass protectors. Maybe we carry Horvath as an extra FB/TE type as a receiver out of the backfield type. It will depend on how they play, and it's only been 1 game, and a few practices so far. It's still up in the air.

Dotson went out and made the plays that were there. I would have liked to have seen more of him, but he did what he could so far. Good for him. There are only so many plays in PS, and he isn't going to get them all. He has some skills, and I like the highlights from earlier in the thread. Not many RB who can run a route downfield, go up and adjust to the pass and come down with a reception. Some can, but they don't spend a lot of time in practice, so he has some skills you like to see. But he has a ways to go and more stuff to show. I hope he does what he needs to, but ultimately as long as a couple of the young RB show it, we will be fine no matter who they are. I hope they all do to make the coaches job at the end of TC very tough in terms of who deserves the spots and how the roster is composed. I hope all the young guys do.

U want to carry up to TWO fullbacks??? When we hardly even used Horvath last year? Waste of a roster spot. We carry Ekkie, Kelley, Dot and Spiller...now THAT'S a nice committee...

My guess? They’ll probably reserve spots for the plethora of WR’s to go with Herbert’s passing game. I’m pretty sure Kelly and Spiller have already been inked in behind Ekeler. That probably leaves Dotson out.
