I'm pretty sure I've been giving props to our front seven for several games now, not just the Jets. You can go back and read what
I had to say about the Jets game in the pre-game thread.
    You must !

I don't think passing for 136 was the game plan. It was a function of not being able to run effectively, which was the game plan. Forced to throw
and it did not work effectively.

The offense had one drive that went for a TD, that was 50 yards due to a Jets turnover.
The other long offensive drive came in Q3 when we went for 68 yards and scored a FG.
The other FG was a function of another short field, we moved the ball 21 yards for that score.

That was it for the offense other than the 2 yard TD run.

As for the way the Bills, Eagles played I don't give a rats ass, that was their problem. Our problem was punting instead of getting 1st downs.
That gave the Jets offense plenty of opportunities. Fortunately our defense played lights out.

Oh and by the way nobody mentioned the Bills, Eagles and Chiefs gave up 22, 20, 20 points to the Jets offense. Our D gave up
6 and when they finally did get into our red zone, nothing.
Well The game plan was not to have 7 or 8 drops either. But if those passes were completed and not dropped our passing O is at or over 200 yards which would be much better vs that Jest D.

In terms of future games, I want our offense to use Kelly more rushing wise and have Ekeler be more of a third down receiving threat like Ronnie Harmon was in the old days. Or Sproles.

Not sure how to improve the blocking since Linsley is out, Slater is dealing with injuries, and Pipkin and the IOL are regressing from last year.
They only ran Kelley 3 times! My guess is that Ekeler was in because they wanted a quick outlet for Herbie to dump off to. The Jets had been susceptible to the RB pass.

Having Linsley out is the biggest issue along the OL. I was not a fan of re-signing Pipkins. Once you have a RT that needs to be protected... and a backup center that is trying to identify stunts etc against a very talented DL... it's not rocket science to predict trouble in all facets of the offense.

Kelley had 3 carries for 18 yards (6 ypc). He was effective... but un-used. If the game plan was to run, don't you think they would have had more than 17 attempts by the RB's...? Everyone said this would be KA vs. sauce... it wasn't. What they forgot to realize is that Sauce pretty much stays on one side of the field. So the Chargers put KA on the other side. Sauce was matched up against QJ most of the night. They were doubling and bracketing KA most of the night... hence the 8 receptions for only 77 yards. The short, safe, ball-control pass was the game plan. They threw in some passes to the RB and TE. But the Jets did a nice job of defending that. The passing game would have been better with MW and JP in there... obviously.

Actually, the Bills, Eagles, and Chiefs offense didn't give up those points to the Jets offense. The Jets defense caused turnovers that put the Jets offense in good places... just like our defense did to the Jets. You will get no argument from me that our defense was lights out. Do you want me to say that the defense won the game for us...? Fine. But at least admit that the offense didn't lose the game for us. Because there have been some really good offenses that lost games for their teams... against these very same Jets. And that is what people are trying to point out to you.

If you REALLY want to understand what the game plan was... you wrote it yourself (the 2nd bolded portion).

We didn't have that many. Ekeler had 3 but if you are counting the 2 targets to Guyton, one was knocked away from a bad pass and the other he was only able to get one hand on it. I wouldn't call those drops.

Maybe 5 but every QB has drops and there was tight coverages all night. Herbert wasn't exactly right on target in that game. Hec he damn near over threw Keenan again while wide open and only a spectacular catch made that complete and he could of ran further if it was on target.

Sure but you can see their intentions with their first 2 draft picks, right? They went WR, pass-rusher. Get the lead... attack the QB. It's fairly obvious. The 2 things they lacked last year (because of injuries) they fortified.

I've been hailing the front 7 since the off-season... even when it wasn't a popular stance. That front 7 got a lot better with the FA pick up of Kendricks. K9 didn't get magically better all by himself. And that Round 3 pick (Henley) was another pick-up I liked. In fact, I liked picks 2-5 more than I liked the 1st round pick. You can go back and read it.

Yep...agree...draft C REAL early, and look for a steal at OT somewhere in the mid rounds...

Don't understand why Kelley isn't getting more touches...That late series when Moore dialed up Ekkie three straight downs and we punted...Kelley should have at LEAST gotten one of those touches...remember, Kelley had that nice long run to the house vs. the Chefs...then the Bolts barely use him...SMH...

If you're getting a center REAL early, then you're expecting him to be your starter... otherwise you've got a high-round pick sitting on the bench behind Linsley. If you're worried about Linsley's health (a smart thing to do)... then cut him and save $9 million in cap. Go sign a proven starting center with that savings. BTW... I think the center group is pretty weak in this year's draft. I doubt center will be BPA in the 2nd-4th rounds.

He took a pretty good shot early in the game (up-ended). I wonder if there was an injury...?

Well that’s disappointing to hear about this year’s center draft prospects.

I don't want to waste any more of Herbert's time and career with young OL that will make us have to wait on them to reach their potential. The good OL prospects will get gobbled up by the end of the first round. And the Chargers aren't going to be bad enough to be able to land said OL players.
