I looked and we actually save about $4M against the cap even while absorbing the dead money hit next season. Right now we are about $960K under the cap next season though that will change with the signing of Lissemore. His contract should put us right around the cap.

Save 4 million with what? We split Gaithers cap hit over two seasons. Took the lessor hit this year (2.5 mil) and it will be 4 mil next year. His 4 mil and Meachems 3.7 mil = 7.7 mil next year.
Pretty sure Lissemore's bonus was paid last year and his base this year is $630,000

when you restructure it adds more years to a guys contract for lower annual $. Previous speculation was the team didn't eant to restructure Rivers yet until they were sure he could rebound this season- otherwise he is likely cut. Gates is a likley cut as well regardless of how he plays with Green waiting to replace him.

Gates' fate next year is largely determined by his health this year. If he stays healthy we probably keep him one more season though we could possibly consider trading him if Green really comes on this season. His contract for his last couple of years isn't very attractive but if he has a good year you could see a team with SB aspirations willing to go after him. But we are not going to be all the deep at WR next year because we ain't gonna keep Royal on this roster at $6M and Floyd isn't getting any younger (though his contract makes it difficult to cut him until after next season).

At this point it's impossible to predict anything for moves next season until some games are played. We just need to round the current roster out and be locked and loaded for Game 1 then go from there. I agree that Gates' health will be a strong factor of whether he stays on the team next year. That along with the play of Green which is tied to Gates' health as well

We would have also been on the hook for Meachem's salary, which was (I think) in the range of $6.8M. Evidently none of that was guaranteed, this was the last season when his salary was guaranteed, so we save that much against the cap. Lissemore's base salary next year is $1M.

We will also have to see what happens with Butler and Thomas as both are in their last year of their contract. And next year will be the last year of Luiget's contract and he is another one who is going to reap a big payday when he gets his next contract.
