if we cut Mack, Bosa, MW, SJD and Kendricks: 2024 salary would have been $127M. dead cap hit of $55M and cap savings of $72M. so if we are $40M over the cap, we would have the remaining $32M to replace those guys.
Corey Linsley is another possible cap savings of $9M if he retires, but that is wait and see.
Could we add a couple of years to Keenan Allen, but have him take a pay cut in 2024? his cap hit is $35M in 2024, with a dead cap hit of $12M
The draft: 7 players and picking 5th will be about $12m of cap space as the 5th pick costs $6 and the rest are close to $1m average
So without releasing anybody, in all reality now up to 44 players and 46m over the cap
To get to 53 players, that would be another 9 at the league minimum of $750 - what was that, another $6.5m or so
Now up to $52.5m over the cap
So sure, they can reduce Allen or Mack by extending them and delaying the inevitable while also increasing the odds of dead cap space.

The only success to,this season is the firing of Telesco. And Staley but TT is the common denominator to the disapointments that has him with a losing 11 year record. He wasnt very good at hid job. So, im excited for the next guy.
If we get Harbaugh, this season is worth the shit show and the optomism will be off the charts even if we MAY have to suffer one season with cap issies and not able to fix everyhting.
We'll see how it goes

Alex Erickson, who made some decent catches in December, made $1M this season.

My guess is he is traded or cut.
Like AJ did, Telesco left us with a mess but im sure a lot of that was Staley driven as TT isnt usually like that. Big red flag appologizing about the JC screw up....also likely Staley driven.

Keenan has a $35M cap hit in 2024 with 15M dead cap hit - $23M savings. we could even trade back a little bit and take one of the other WR's if we want to stock up on picks (who are cheaper players after the first round). that last cut would hurt, but could balance the overall cap. we have options out there.

McKitty -- 4th rounder - didn't make it through year 3
Spiller -- first two years, same as Woods - will he make it through camp
Kelley - will they even bring him back
Rumph - anybody see anything that he will be more than ST player
Gilman - he might have a chance but all depends on the type of defense
the list is pretty long for Tommy Polian

Early in his career, I along with others thought Gilman was just picked as he went to Notre Dame. Give him credit, he became a solid player. Granted, maybe it was just the rest of teh defense was bad and he stood out
