I know it because of Hortiz track record in Baltimore.

He is playing the long game, with as much as he can accomplish short term as feasible.

    Agents are frequently reptilian.

And no, I am not fickle by nature.

Allen could have taken less money to stay but not one person here would take a pay cut at their job for their boss so stop acting holier than thou.

Allen didn't take a pay cut last year - he got all of his money

This year they wanted him to take a pay cut

Its fine he didn't want to take a pay cut but a lot of players "restructure" and still get paid the same amount of money

This was a long term play by the team - and I don't think Allen is a bad guy not taking a pay cut

Yep that’s exactly what happened but that being said is the team better without Allen and some cast offs and a 4th or with Allen in 24 and a 5th comp? Allen makes this team better period full stop. You can’t trade away a number 1 wr and expect to compete in the passing first NFL.

Imagine being at a company that overspent and you just had the best year of your life making money for them, then they ask you to take a pay cut. You tell them to kick rocks. They can fire you but then they will have to rebuild and that’s what we’re looking at here kids.
You do realize there is language in the contract that the team doesn't even need to ask a player to convert salary into a signing bonus to accrue over future years. I am sure they told Allen of their plans
he was like "so I am getting all my cash, but now and not during the season"

          they said "yes

          he was good to go

he got paid all of his money

I am not blaming him for not taking a pay cut - but you have to understand - JH2 are building a long term team

Personally, I thought Bosa would be gone and KA stayed - just odd how it all worked out

Just have to see the finished team Hortiz puts together

Some Guilt combined with common sense. The optics would not look right after taking a highly paid vacation for two years plus he need to rebuild his street credo if at all possible.
Chiefs won the Superbowl with 10 Rookies....

KA is a bit too old and misses many games per season to be paid what he was making here as a #1 WR! Let's face it he is a great WR however his stats last season led to few wins, and he did have the benefit of Herbert throwing him the rock! But let's be real Harbaugh needs and desires physical, speedy blocking WR's and what Allen brings to the table doesn't really seem like a fit! Especially with his cap hit and inquiry risk it just didn't make sense to keep him here as the #1 WR when we need to really go young and can't pay him what he wants.

KA's agent really needed to not speak on what our GM said because Hortiz was just answering questions.

Please stop comparing Allen to our jobs and pay cuts. We are not contemplating making 19 million to stay with the team we are supposed to love over 23 million for one years work. How many millions do you need to be happy? Chargers have already paid Keenan 100 million dollars, even when he wasn't on the field.

Bosa and Mack made it very clear they wanted to play for Harbaugh and be part of the solution to help salary cap mess and build something special here, Keenan prioritized every cent of his money, so be it. Maybe Keenan just didn't want to play for Harbaugh, in a balanced offense where the ball wasn't force fed to him in a predictable, plodding offence.

Good management that wins make the hard decisions when need be. Like taking this mess from 50 million over cap to 39 million under cap so they can move forward ina cap healthy place for 2024, 2025 and beyond. You do that by not being afraid to move on from 32 year old players with 34 million dollar cap hits.

Please, we could draft a WR stud at #5 that is better than Keenan Allen and his 11 yard per reception and 7 TDS. Keenan might be argulably the best possession WR in the NFL but he is not the best WR in the NFL.

Yes smart GMs make plans looking ahead to future performance not PAST performance. That is the agents job, not Hortiz's

Again you miss the point - it was team friendly, but benefited him by allowing him to collect his large salary early, invest it and make even more money.

I have literally been in that situation at a small software company before and took a pay cut 3 different times over the past 20 years so we did not have to lay people off. I'm not claiming to be something other than a guy protective of his development team but not everybody only thinks about themselves (especially with $110 million in contract salary plus endorsements). Brady did multiple times.
