We can appreciate that but it's still going to be a gut punch to miss out on the playoffs after starting 7-3, 8-4. Two things can be true at once.

If that's what happens, yes it will be a gut punch. I don't think we're missing the playoffs, though. I think it's very realistic for us to finish with 10 wins, and I'm optimistic that we will have 11. I don't see the Dolphins or Colts getting to 10 wins.

I know it doesn't fit your narrative of always criticizing the coaching staff, GM and players but the bottom line is this - the O got us the lead late and the D could not stop them. I'm not pretending the O is perfect or Herbert doesn't make mistakes. The O was bad in the first half, but turned it on in the second half. KC could have made lots of plays earlier in the game that would have resulted in a blowout - but they didn't. Their O drove down and scored the game winner with the game on the line against our vaunted D and we lost.

It's not my narrative. Just the facts. The offense had a historically poor performance against Atl and followed it up with a zero in the first half. 12 straight quarters without a TD. If you're good with that fine. I'm not. Kudos to them for the second half bounce back last night. I hope that's a harbinger of things to come.

Nitpicking on Herbie? Lol...never has the phrase "...look a gift horse in the mouth..." been more appropriate....and make no mistake...that we landed him, instead of spending a decade or more trying to land a comparable francise QB, RIGHT AFTER our last one retired...that's a gift. Trust me...the fans of about 20+ teams, at least, are jealous.

Mahomes misses throws like that all the time. He missed a couple last night. He's actually been wildly inaccurate this season with *checks notes* 11 picks.

And, BTW, all those guys you mentioned have MUCH better offensive weapons than Herbert. If Herb was throwing to Justin Jefferson instead of Josh Palmer, that would've been a TD. Sam Darnold with the Chargers receiving crew would be absolute dogshit. Just like he has been for the majority of his career.

you should just ignore the Herbie-critics from now on. Herbert had a 101 rating while getting the shit beat out of him. Mahomes had an 88 rating. these guys are sadly clueless as to how hard it is to play NFL QB. They probably still wonder why the best QBs get paid $50M/yr. There has never been a QB in the history of the league that didn't make a single bad throw. There are about 15 QBs good enough to play high level NFL at any one time on the entire planet. But they talk like its an automatic, "uh uh shoulda hit that one" ... like a Madden NFL type thing.

you're giving them too much cred to even rebut their opinions on Herbie and let them feel noticed. If guys cannot see that Herbie is a very special and gifted QB, they don't know how to assess QBs. I'm not going to bother to respond to another Herbie criticism this year, I suggest you also don't give them any further amplification.

I disagree. It was actually very close, but Herbert had slightly better passing stats than Mahomes.

Stats are for losers. When it counted Mahomes and Chiefs came through. We struggled to get a 1st down in the first half.
That put us in a 13-0 bind. Then again when the game was on the line the Chiefs came through. Clearly they out played us.
Don't need to play the Herbert/Mahomes game. Mahomes is clearly the better QB at this point.

Well we definitely did not out play them. We scored 0 points in the first half. The D did play very well, up until the very end when everything including the kick
off went wrong.

2nd thing is we cannot rely on the pass rush to beat the Chiefs in the future. We must remember that they were on their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string OTs.

While the D is getting there the offense needs major improvement. We have struggled all year to put up 20 or more points. That's just not going
to cut it in the NFL. So would like to see what Hortiz does in the off season to remedy the situation.

The KC OTs were allowed a lot of slack by the officials regards lining up properly and illegal motion, like rocking back before the snap and drawing offsides.

....And we definitely did outscore KC until their FG attempt banged off the post and went through with no time left in the game.
I was bitching about how we lead early the majority of games and never, NEVER come out after the half and score. Which we did twice. Kudos to the offense for making adjustments and taking the game to the wire.
IMO that was pretty awesome. We were in it bigtime.

your arguments are bad because you have no perspective on how hard it is to play NFL QB and hit a guy running full stride 40 yards away. If it was easy, QBs would be paid $5M/year or maybe league min and we'd have hundreds to thousands of great NFL QBs in every retail counter in the country.

Palmer didn't make every catch - ergo he had a critical mistake and sucks. Same for every receiver on the team - every one of them (Except Chark, who apparently isn't allowed to play)
Not one OL player made every block so each of them suck
No RB read every hole/gap or made the right cut perfectly on every run - so they all suck
Same can be said for every single defender on the team. not one defender made every single play. So every single one of them also suck

It is ignorant analysis to call out one incomplete pass and ignore the rest of the game. Herbie played well. Picking a play is the dumbest possible way to analyze Herbie's game.
