I think it's clear they are grooming Geathers as the NT for run downs. He had more bad than good moments, but he really flashed at times at well. You can't teach his combination of size and agility. It's rough having to rely on rookies at NT, which IMO is the toughest position to learn on the D in a 3-4.

The problem with Cam is that I think he tries to rush the passer a bit too much, when he really just needs to hold his ground and command that double team.

Cam couldn't even handle a single blocker Monday - nevermind a double team.
I'm not holding my breath hoping a rookie free agent is going to do much better this year.
You're right. It takes a long time for a nose tackle to get good. This is a veteran's position.

I never really expect much from rookies their first year, personally. Even our first rounders from the past few years have had significant issues in their first years.

No. For better or worse, Te'o is our starting ILB of the future. He needs to be playing.

Does it matter? I didn't realize this season was super bowl or bust. It's in our best interest to play all these young guys and let them take their lumps.

May be next week, after Bird is near the top of the list in tackles and makes another big play, he'll get some recognition. Or maybe not.

Not sure why Weddle isn't shredded for giving up a TD to the same person (Daniels).
