Last June, reviewing Tom Telesco's moves relating to Chargers players, I objected to just one: the cold shoulder applied to Shaun Phillips. Make no mistake: Phillips wanted to stay. Also, he realized he wasn't necessarily an every-down player anymore. With him, would the Chargers be close to the Broncos and Chiefs? That's questionable, but with 5.5 sacks and several other big plays, he's more than paid back the $1 million in salary guaranteed him by John Elway.

He's not going to get many hurries or sacks, but do expect more impact plays from him. Butler hasn't played very well so far., whatever the reason. Everyone on D has struggled, who has stood out in your opinion, butler? They did play better against Dallas, with Weddle at safety instead of LB. He wasn't a good at LB.

The LB corp as a whole is worse this year. Maybe other teams find it easier to work stuff away from the better defenders?

So has Denver's for the first five games this season. Denver has the worst pass defense in the entire league and has a whopping 2 sacks more than the Chargers do this season, and this despite the fact that teams are having to pass constantly to play catch up.

I am talking about our defense. Does it seem better this year than last year's to you? Why muddy the water bringing out comparisons to Denver. I have been on record saying they are not a SB team (though getting Miller back will surely improve them). Getting Bailey back should help them as well. Still they are winning (5-0 as of last count) and their offense seems to be even better than last years - they're not missing McCoy even a little bit. I will say, though, that if Peyton has a 3 INT day they probably lose the game.
