    Freeney; good acquisition?

I know some posters and fans think the Chargers overpaid for a declining player. But I think this article (click link for the whole thing) sheds some light on the value Freeney is bringing to the team so far this young season (and off season).

His 11 quarterback hurries are most among NFL linebackers, and he's also totaled three quarterback hits. He may not always be getting there for a sack, but he often is close enough to affect a passer's comfort in the pocket.

He has clearly been a worthwhile acquisition and he's done his damage vs. two of the best OT's in the league.

It's two games into a 2 year contract. And right now I think he's on the field too much to last the whole season.

Hasn't been on the field that much. He's played in 70% of the defensive snaps. JJ 81% English 47%

I've said it before, our poor pass rush is because of the non existent interior pass rush so far. Liuget has been a shell of himself and Reyes hasn't been much better. We will not have success if those guys don't step it up.

                    OK.

And I guess if Freeney continues this pace throughout the season, the rhetoric will be that it is only one season of a two season contract.

I know it is early, but Freeney has shown he can still play. That is factual. He has had a positive influence on a young team off the field and in the lockeroom. That is factual. And his signing demonstrated to the other players that the Chargers are not pulling a Cleveland Browns on this season.

He's been surprisingly good this year. Much better so far than last season.

I agree on JJ. He looks like a different player this year. His play vs the run and the pass has improved significantly.
