Look at the teams who have been QB poor and drafting high. Not a club I want to join.

Cleavland, Oakland have each started 15 or more QBs since the last successful QB those teams had. Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, the Jets, maybe, Rams, Arizona, Bills, Carolina, Titans, and the Bears all have had long streaches making due at QB some continue, some are to early to call if they have foud there franchise QB or not, we will see, but Im in no hurry to go QB shoping high in the next draft or two even if we pick top five!

Yes, more or less that is the main point. If Rivers was 26 years old, and we had the exact same team we have now, I wouldn't even have started the thread. It's much easier to be patient with, and justify losing, 2-3 years of a younger QB's career than you can with a guy who is 31.

Well, I keep looking at our roster a year or two from now. People say we are rebuilding but I look and ask, where? We didn't get all that much younger and so far only one of our recent draft picks has come close to showing that he will be a long term starter. I don't think we are done with the wrecking ball yet much less starting with a new foundation. I do believe you do most of the good work via the draft but we are looking at needed to replace anywhere from 12-15 key people by 2017. Our offense, when you look at it, ain't that young. You're not going to get a quick fix to our roster issues without delving heavily in FA. And you can see how that has worked for teams like Philly and Washington. Hell, I am not sold that Denver will get to the promised land either.

I'd agree with all except:

- 4 OL: You've been trumpeting that one since the Draft. I say we need an OLT and a C, both starting quality.
- 2 TEs/2 WRs: If you count Green as a TE, than 1 TE, 2 WRs; if you count Green as a WR, then 2 TEs, 1 WR.

- Hopefully we re-sign Butler
- Hopefully Taylor proves to be starter quality
- Hopefully Williams pans out
- Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully.....

Clary is due to make $6.25M next year and Hardwick is due $5.125M. I expect neither to be on the team next year but you can pretty much guarantee that they aren't kept past their contract. Reinhart got a one year deal and Dunlap is signed only through next year (and he is no starter). By 2016 we will almost surely need to replace all 4 of those positions. We can't do that in one draft and this year all we did was run in place by replacing Vasquez with Fluker.

Huh? This years line is ridiculously better than last seasons. It's not even a comparison how much better it is. Even our backups haven't been complete shit. I wouldn't get too caught up in looking at the long term prospects of the line. I doubt we ever have much stability aside from our 2 OT's. We'll mix and match mid round picks and 1-2 year vets on the interior of the line. I am quite OK with that going forward. Use those dollars to spend on the defensive side of the ball.

Funny that AJ was criticized for not spending enough high picks on the o-line (I believe you were among that group) and yet you take a 5th rounder and a UDFA and say all is well. It's only two games of tape on Troutman, but he's been fairly solid, if not above average in both contests. Serviceable interior O lineman aren't that hard to find. Not sure why proclaiming that Becton could possibly be a swing OT is "drinking the koolaid" as you proclaim. Most backup O lineman aren't high round picks.

I wasn't amongst the AJ bashers about O lineman. I WAS among the AJ bashers that thought he reached too often and got shit players that ended up as busts. I don't really care who or what position gets drafted as long as that player contributes to the team. 1st and 2nd rounders should be starters at whatever corresponding position they were drafted as.

And like I've said repeatedly, I only expect us to draft a LT with a high round pick. The rest of the O line should be mix and match.
