Interesting perspective on the line from Popper:
Q: This season feels like a waste. Even completely healthy (the entire roster) the o-line (which I'm pretty sure was ranked 30th last year) would be been an Achilles heel. What exactly does Tolesco and Lynn see in Tevi and Scott that the rest of us don't?
A: Everyone talks about Tevi like he's the worst tackle in football. That's just not true. He's a really good run blocker and his struggles in pass pro this season have come against J.J. Watt and Von Miller, two of the best pass rushers in football. Is he a Pro Bowl tackle? No. But he's still only 24, and he does bring a lot to the table with his athleticism. No one likes to bring up all the screen plays where Tevi is sprinting to the edge and opening up huge holes for the running backs. Just view everything in context -- the good with the bad.
And remember, Scott was not supposed to be playing this season. They had to resort to a backup plan once Okung suffered a completely random and very severe medical scare. They think Scott will improve. He's already shown he's capable of that this season, even though Sunday against the Broncos was a step back. When your Pro Bowl left tackle is unavailable, the play of the offensive line is going to get worse. There's really no way around that.
