So what you’re saying is you just need great lines and you don’t need $35m QB? Any journeyman will do?

Does the QB make a difference or do they cover up other flaws?

So do we need Rivers or not? I have no idea if you’re pro-Rivers or not.

      That's a lot there ! Lol.

7 years in and TT has failed miserably building the Oline as it needs a complete rebuild.

The core problem is he can't get his draft picks right which causes us to spend a lot of money in FA for over the hill lineman who are oft injured.

When the oft injured lineman get hurt then you have tevi and Scott on the oline getting your QB killed.

The next QB will have to deal with this.

On the other hand the defense is not that far off.

Jimmy G passed for 131 yards in the 49ers win over the Vikings. At one point in the 3rd quarter the 49ers ran the ball on 12 consecutive plays. They ran for 186 yards using an RB committee.

Ryan Tannehill passed for 88 yards in the Titans win over Baltimore. Henry has 195 yards rushing after running for 180 or so last week.

Lynn must have been drooling yesterday.

Niners RB is by committee and why I'm saying we don't need a big RB like Henry but its nice to have one 215 to 220 lbs. There are RBs that size in this draft with the top guys like Dobbins, Ettiene, Taylor, etc.

A good run game with Rivers passing ability,... Well we have seen that and we will better off than the Titans.

Just need the OL and DL.

The titans stopped the ravens twice on 4th and 1. The ravens had been 8-8 in that situation going into the game.

props to Vrabel. His guys played like he used to play.

Or he'll just throw a bunch of boneheaded interceptions like Lamar Jackson did which seems to be his MO these days. BTW Baltimore has a pretty good Oline and Dline as well and they didn't seem to prevent those interceptions he threw.

The Titans have won nothing yet. Let's see how they do next week.

Jimmy G threw a stupid interception (the type that ruins the Chargers chances). After that, they sensibly decided they didn't need to pass to win the game. Not only did they run it on 12 consecutive run plays...they scored a td within that sequence.

Jackson made many errors, not sure he’s the answer to any trophy question. Given his now 0-2 record as a favorite that face planted in the big game, all criticism and questions are fair. but in the big picture yesterday, he also seemed to not really have a chance.

Last week some of us noted TEN won on defense. They did that again yesterday. They were more dominant on O too but again, their increased points spread was mainly a result of the many defensive turnovers. Their OL LOS domination was key to the then grinder game and BAL defense finally folded. Defense wins. A grinding OL put nails in the coffin but they need the defense to dig that grave.

Ok - I’m sold. BPA OT or IDT at #6. A difference maker that anchors the surrounding 4 (or 6) foundation of O or D. OL is the weakest group on LAC by far, but IDT is also glaringly weak. There is no IDT anchor on the squad for 2-down or short yard situations, and pretending only a 3-down player is critical is defective logic. 3rd and 2 vs 3rd and 8 ... it changes games.

The problem I see is - if it works, LAC has a better record in 20 than 19 and instead of sitting at #6, they are at 16 or 26. Rivers does need to be replaced. Those that think #6 isn’t high enough must plan to wait for a 1-15 year and hope that a franchise QB is coming out that same year. Thats a couple of long bets tied together as a parlay. It will be easier to build a line in the mid-teens than it will be to get a franchise QB.

The wildcard is still what are TT/Spani thinking about new stadium, #Gag4LA, and their much needed enthusiasm burst. Does an OT / IDT sell any season tickets before Sept? I don’t think so. Would a Tua? Maybe, in their thinking. Personally I think its all fools gold, nothing will sell LAC in LA.
The Chargers as an organization need to ask themselves - do they want to win in 2020 or do they want a QB? Its that easy: Rivers with an upgraded OL and IDL/MLB - will be an improved team overa rookie QB - even if they still revamp the OL and IDL/MLB.

If Spanii want to win LA - its pretty easy call. I know you mention Tua - but winning will sell seats. The Cardinals picked Murray - they were 5-10-1. The Ravens had to go through Lamars rookie season. Either way, they need to upgrade the OL and IDL/MLB. Thats a given.

Thomas, Brown, Wills, Wilfs, and Simmons. Nice cluster.

What the playoffs prove every single year is that there is no one way to build a team. Everyone wants to always jump on the approach of a team that wins a game or two. Bottom line - execute better than your opponent while making fewer mistakes and you'll win. Hard to argue that an elite QB wouldn't be better to have than a game manager, but you can win with a game manager if the rest of your team steps up.

                        Very good post!
It's clear to see how important the trenches are. Over the years we have seen teams with mediocre QB's win the prize. I'm not saying QB's are unimportant but I will say the best QB that ever played needed a team with a solid OL and DL to win. On the other hand look at the teams that won the SB in spite of having an average QB.(Redskims, Bucs, and Giants come to mind) Bolster the lines and Rivers can get us where we all want to be.

It's not easy to draft a true franchise QB but it is certainly possible to bring in an average QB and win with him and two solid lines.
                        THE YEAR OF THE FLIP!

So, there is the other side of the coin.

What did you see in the early game, oh great and wise Trenchers ?

Yes this is a trick question.

                          Answer in invisible ink below.

Compared to TEN, SF won with a different blocking scheme, personnel, and against a better defensive front.

We do not play modern football.
