If Rivers was 29 instead of 39 at that point you fire Anthony Lynn. If Bill Walsh or Bill Belichick is your head coach, then that's a different story.

At the age of 39, Rivers was still going strong. He took the Colts to the playoffs. He was instrumental to their success that year. The proof is that since he retired, the Colts haven't been in the playoffs. They will not make the playoffs this year.

He should've been allowed to stay in the Charger organization until he retired. But he was kicked out. Charger fans should've been irate about it. But they were ok with it because he had become this team's scapegoat. They blamed him for this team's crappy performance year after year.

Well, he's gone, and nothing has changed. Still a crappy team. Rivers was about the only thing that redeemed the Chargers between 2011 and 2019, and a lot of fans didn't realize it
Herbert will fare no better in the end

I love Rivers, but he was in decline in 2019, mostly because he got the crap beat out of him behind terrible offensive lines for most of his career. At 39 he's not a quarterback you commit long-term to. It sucked, and I was against it at the time. I wanted him to retire a Charger. He earned that right. If he had stayed, though, he would have suffered through another terrible year behind an awful offensive line and with a bad head coach, and he would have received more criticism he didn't deserve.

He went to a Colts team with a head coach that understood that you need to be a running offense when you have an aging quarterback past his prime. He had a good year under those circumstances, but he retired because he knew it was time. Wentz and Ryan have been significant downgrades, but the Colts' offensive line has deteriorated over the last couple of years.

while i agree with you and i was a huge fan of Rivers, we are very lucky that the turn of events led to Herbert. i still love to see Rivers discuss anything in the NFL. if he were ever to broadcast games, it would be awesome. i was floored back in 2004 when the Mannings (with Eli) shit on the chargers as an ill-advised place to be, but the Spanos clan has proven the Manning's to be less crazy than i thought since then.

Rivers played for the Chargers in 2019 and Herbert started in 2020.

Chargers got a 3rd round comp pick for Rivers.

Herbert > Rivers his first year.

With Derek Carr being benched there goes his 92 consecutive starting streak meaning Rivers at #2 & Favre at #1 are safe for a long time to go.

Funny thing is in the past few years there was Mathew Stafford moving up the charts until injury at 139.

Then Matt Ryan getting hurt stopped his opportunity at 163.

Then finally same with Russel Wilson who started as a rookie every game until his injury stopped at 165.

Funnier thing Carr was actually only #2 active!

#1 active is Brady at 125 consecutive starts which is his 3rd highest total behind his 126 from 2009-2016 & his 128 from 2001-2008. 3 separate times of 125 consecutive starts.

Amazing that Rivers did 252 with a torn ACL.

More amazing Favre did 69 more at 321 getting beat on back in the day of not protecting the QB.

Peyton at 227 hurt his neck.

Eli at 222 got benched for bad play.

Herbert is now at 47 and will hopefully hit #50 in playoff game #1.

Not sure where Patrick Mahommes or Josh Allen, Kirk Cousins, Jared Goff, Daniel Jones are on this list but they are outside of number 25 Tannehill was at 77 (Anyone know?)

Aaron Rodgers would be at 80 except for the B.S. CoViD 2019 policy in 2021.

All of these are including playoffs.

That can't be right. He only played 10 games his Rookie season because of his knee injury. And I'm seeing 16 regular season games for last year where there were 17.

Three years since Rivers last game as a Charger. Sam Farmar of the LA Times posted this clip of his final statement on his Charger career and what he was most proud of. It’s why he was beloved.

Disappointment that PRs last playoff game as a Charger was the destruction in Foxboro.

Never forgave Bradley for that one.

Colts fans pissed on PR, and were happy he left.
                          They deserve what they got.
