It has everything to do with blocking. How does anyone expect to run the ball if you can't block anyone.
As bad as the blocking was at times early in the year, it has gotten much worse as the season has progressed.

The only thing to do is to play better somewhere else. It's a team sport, and at some point for every place there is bad play, we have to play better.
3 losses by 7, 2 losses by 3. All are 1 score games. All of them we had chances to win, but terrible execution has kept us from taking control of any of the games except Miami.
The OL is really bad. We need to simplify the offense and give the younger guys the work to see if we can accelerate their development. Extra time in practice on fundamentals and the like. But at some point the guys on the field have to make their blocks and there is no amount of playcalling that will compensate.
IF we had players who were being misused (scheme), then playcalling might be an issue. But the guys we have are raw and inexperienced and need to be developed as fast as possible.
Same at DT. We sold out the OL to be strong on the DL, drafting high at DT and now neither is playing well. Even if we had drafted an OL early (like Dillard) we would probably face the same issue with vet players underachieving at DT (although none of them had any upside) and rookie OL struggling. We just have to get through the bad times as quick as possible. DT have to push the pocket and keep the LB clean, and right now it isn't working. JJ, Tillery and Broughton need to play better. All need to start using their hands and stop the cheap ass college dip their shoulder crap. All have flashed ability, but they need to be a lot better.
Same at LB, although the LB are being exposed a lot on passing downs because we have no depth to play dime. The LB are struggling behind a weak DT, and OL are getting clean releases on the LB.
Secondary has a rookie starting at the most important back 7 position. Teamer is playing the adjustor/SS spot and he is developing the technique to be a solid player there. THey are getting killed by not having a pass rush.

Teams are afraid of our passing attack. With Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Hunter Henry and the RB's, the last thing a team wants us to do is spread the ball around in the passing game, especially in an up-tempo style.
What teams want us to do is run on 1st down, gain 2 yards, and then be forced to pass the ball.
So we should do the opposite of what our opponents want, right? I personally don't see the need to ever run the ball again this season, except to close out a W.
We can't even gain a single yard for heaven's sake. That's been apparent most of the season, dating back to even the preseason.
To the turnover-phobes, yes, this will increase the odds for tipped balls, strip sacks, picks, etc. Some of this risk can be mitigated with a short passing attack. But I'm afraid it's are only option: become a pass-happy, Mike Martz style offense. High risk, high reward.
What do we have to lose at this point?
