Chargers ran the 4th fewest in the league. 28 teams ran more % of runs "up the gut" than Lynn and the Chargers did.
Lets compare with 49ers who were 5th fewest percentage of "up the gut"
Chargers
Left End 15%
Left Tackle 11%
Mid/Guard 46%
Right Tackle 13%
Right End 15%
49ers
Left End 11%
Left Tackle 15%
Mid/Guard 48%
Right Tackle 15%
Right End 11%
So 49ers ran between the tackles 78% and outside 22%
Chargers ran between the tackles 70% and outside 30%
An what about the #1 team that "run it up the gut"
Tampa Bay (that Xs and Os genius Arians) runs inside the tackles 90% of time and 70% are up the gut.
Left End 6%
Left Tackle 9%
Mid/Guard 70%
Right Tackle 11%
Right End 4%
So you can keep claiming Lynn is forcing the rock up the gut, but he actually is not compared to the rest of the league.
Lynn is an expert at run game and pass protection. He got a lot more out of the Chargers than he is getting credit for.
20th ranked pass block win rate with the injured o-line he was shuffling. 4.0 per carry with the run game behind the same o line.
One thing I am hoping Lynn sees during his off season homework is that while Gordon avg 1 broken tackle per 20 runs.
Ekeler avg 1 broken tackle per 10 runs. So i think his loyalty did backfire. And he will have to admit it and get better at deciding who is really earning snaps. And I trust he will. I see him only improving as a HC and Leader which is why I want him to stay and coach.
