The gild left the Hortiz lilly insanely fast.

He didn't do what some of you wanted therefore he screwed up.

I don't know what the deal is with the street free agent punter. I don't know why when the Jets tried him out last season they passed and then no one, no one even had him in for a tryout after that. I don't know if the offer from the Chiefs was his only one. I don't know what his Chiefs contract looks like. I don't know if the Chargers didn't also make an offer but it was lower than Chiefs because of our salary cap problems. I don't know if they asked Ficken and he said "please don't mess with my specialists". I don't know if other teams tried to get him on a futures contract and he and his agent wanted to be picky to find the better situation. Just don't know.

But I am pretty sure that Hortiz is not a knucklehead and if he felt this was a game changing opportunity that was too good to pass up, he would have taken it.

I didn't mean like it was Hortiz was bad but he is on the job now - I think it was a failed opportunity. I wanted him signed last fall when the Chargers were dropped. And to sign with the Chiefs, of all teams, even ahead of the Broncos or Raiders.

The Chiefs have been division winners for 8 years and its not an accident. Best team in football just took a calculated decision that could improve their roster because if Araiza beats out Townsend - they can add depth elsewhere

I understand the sentiment. And I think there is a good chance Townsend, who I did not realize is a FA and would command some bucks, is let go for the new guy. And I hate the Chiefs as much as all Charger fans do and don't want them with yet another weapon. I just don't want to jump to conclusions about the new regime without knowing what really happened. But hey, that is what the interweb chat rooms are for.

Hortiz hasn't even been on the job for two weeks and coaches are still being hired, they have this ridiculous cap mess that TT and staley left to fix, and they are also moving into a new facility this offseason, as if they didn't have enough shit on their plates we have to trash them for not signing a fucking punter?!

we are talking about people, just regular human beings, right? these guys are not just making massive changes at work but moving their entire families from a few thousand miles to LA on top of everything else...even if it is punt god, he's still just a fucking punter, I'm not going to obsess over it...

Just make sure you get the pick right.

Nobody is talking shit to talk shit.

But this draft is loaded with hall of fame pro bowl talent.

All these guys would be number 1 picks in their respective drafts.

            Nabers

            Harrison Jr.

            Oudenzie

            Bowers.

Oh and we have a franchise Quarterback I’m just saying.

you mean, in a world without QBs? I'm not as sure any of them would be overall #1 but I get your point - they are good.

Saints just restructured Carrs contract saving 23 m .converting it to a signing bonus but pushing it into 2025. They aren't ever not going to have cap issues lol

they just did it with too many players, pushed too much money forward with too many people, now they are stuck with a large group of aging veterans that they cannot afford to cut, their biggest hope is that they do what Corey Linsley did and take huge pay cuts as they retire, I think Drew Brees did this for them as well...

So, the Saints basically patched up the Carr for now, but it's still going to continue being a costly lemon...

I'm hoping that the Raiders have the EXACT same degree of success with former Chargers GM Tom Telesco at the helm as the Chargers did with former Raiders GM Steve Ortmayer.

That would mean the Bolts complete a trade with the Raiders, sending JT Woods to Vegas in exchange for, oh, say... Maxx Crosby.

For those who weren't following the Chargers at the time, Ortmayer traded OT Jim Lachey-- an All-Pro left tackle-- to the Raiders in exchange for OT John Clay.

What's that, you say? The name 'John Clay' doesn't stand out? Clay was selected by the Raiders with the 15th overall pick of the '87 draft, and had a decent rookie year. Suspiciously, the 1988 trade was engineered (by Ortmayer!) so that Clay didn't have to pass a physical. He suited up for ONE game for the Chargers, and never played after that due to back problems.

The Chargers also received 3rd and 4th round draft picks in that trade. Ortmayer traded those picks back to the Raiders for RB Napolean McCallum.

This trade looked sketchy at the time. But in hindsight, absolutely everything about this trade looks treasonous. Ortmayer traded the Chargers' best player to his former employer for a bag of manure! It's a mystery to me that Pete Rozelle didn't think any kind of intervention was warranted.

On a side note, within a week of acquiring Lachey, the Raiders traded him to Washington in exchange for QB Jay Schroeder. It was a small piece of redemption for Charger fans that Lachey didn't help the Raiders, and Schroeder didn't, either.

Quack, remember that Lachey was threatening a holdout, so the Bolts were forced to either trade him, or lose his services in the final year of his deal. I don't think it mattered who was the GM at the time for the Chargers, whining Jim was going to need to be traded. Now, as to compensation, a 3rd and 4th is actually not bad. But to trade them both for McCallum WAS a bad move...Napoleon didn't produce all that much, so that part does look sketchy....
