It’s a surprising decision to ask Rivers back, but at the same time, they have gone through quite a collection of QBs since Luck retired: Brissett, Hoyer, Rivers, Wentz, Ryan, Ehlinger, Foles, Minshew, Richardson, Flacco and Jones.Originally posted by WindsorUK View PostWhy in the world would Indy not look to grab a QB off someone elses PS BEFORE going with Old Man Rivers????
PS options that have started games in the NFL: Jeff Driskel (Ari), Mike White (Car), Bailey Zappe (Cle), Will Grier (Dal), Sam Ehlinger (Den), CJ Beathard (Det), Trevor Siemian (Ten).
I suppose an argument can be made for these guys being more game ready in terms of fitness, but outside of Ehlinger they would have to learn the playbook. So although asking Rivers back is surprising, they are really short on ‘better’ options that can make an impact right now. Also, consider that both their GM and HC were on the hot seat coming into the season and will want to give themselves the best chance to do something. Rivers might reek of desperation, but I’m sure he’ll give it his all to save their season and go on a run (if he plays).
One final thought, one could argue the AFC is wide open this season with the decline of the Chiefs. Their division is still winnable if they win out. In the play offs, they could cause an upset or two. So perhaps they feel like making one last big swing at getting to the play offs rather than having their season whimper out to a middling draft pick?

Heineke is out there but Steichen is the reason this is happening. They talk all season long as Rivers high school team he is coaching is running their offense.....the one Rivers played in.
It's all about that.

at least we still have Tyler Conklin and Scott mattock on the roster, aside from whatever information Jones can impart to the Texans, he was a solid cog in the middle against the run...Originally posted by 21&500 View Post

It's 100% about Shane Steichen, the truth is the Colts treated Rivers like shit when he was there, they didn't trust him to throw the ball and he became the scapegoat when crucial mistakes were made by other players including some massive fumbles by Taylor that literally cost the Colts their season...most of what made Phillip great is stil there, managing the game, reading defenses, quick processing, and quick release...he'll be limited by his feet like always and it remains to be seen how his arm will look, almost 5 years since he last threw a pass in the pros and his arm had already declined in 2020 from never having been a great arm to begin with...Originally posted by Boltjolt View PostHeineke is out there but Steichen is the reason this is happening. the only thing that sucks about any of this is that Rivers helping the Colts could make it harder for the Chargers to make the playoffs..."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. I think he definitely cares about the Hall of Fame, but he probably enjoys playing and being a part of a team even more. If he thinks he can still do it, he probably doesn't want to end up regretting not trying.Originally posted by Topcat View Post
Maybe PR doesn't care so much about the HOF...the guy just loves the game...and still dreams of winning a SB...
It's the coaching staff's job to step in and say, "We can't put you in there," if he doesn't have it anymore. We'll see what happens. I just don't want him to suffer any more injuries than he's already had.

Jones wasnt here the last time Minter schemed for the HOU offense, at least. He was our worst DT, so all we can do is hope HOU plays him?Originally posted by richpjr View Post
Time for Minter to make a few tweaks and fake the crap out of them.
oh and Minter’s last HOU scheme didnt work so I expect he’ll change it some lolJustin Herbert 2026 MVP Watch

It’s an outside the box idea that will either look brilliant or blow up bigly. I think it’ll be hard for Phil to come back in and be effective right away but I guess we’ll see?Originally posted by Mike8272 View Post

Let's also not forget that Rivers under pressure tended to play hero ball...forcing the rock into double coverage for picks...if Rivers can just throw the ball away or at least take the sack and stay away from costly picks, he may have the chance to do some damage...we shall see...Originally posted by Fouts2herbert View Post

Rivers played hero ball when they were behind, it was the 4rth quarter, they had no running game .... and he knew the Charger defense was no longer able to stop the opposing O.Originally posted by Topcat View Post

Rivers threw very few interceptions in the playoffs during his career
