Rivers was trying to get a flag on those plays. Anyone who doesnt understand that, i dont know what to tell ya. Happened against us many times to lose late in games.

Phil did have some not so good throws that got picked but those long throws were to absolutely try and get a flag in the last seconds. How many times did he get us a lead only for the defense to collapse and lose?
I lost count. It was happening to Herbert as well with Gus and Staley. Minter slowly stopped that from happening.

Rivers wasn’t good when he last played 5 years ago for the Colts. Not saying you think this, but anyone else who thinks he can play better or even the same has wildly imaginary expectations, IMO.

Kind of reminds me of some who expected Omarion to single handedly hoist the Chargers on his back and top 200 yards in his first game back from injury.

I know it’s an exciting storyline made for Hollywood and would generate a lot of eyeballs for the NFL but I hope Steichen has more compassion for Rivers welfare and doesn’t play him.

I don think anyone expected Hampton to go for 200 yards.

I know i said i HOPE he reels of 120 but i also hope Herbert doesnt get sacked at all going forwards. I also said they probably split the carries like 15 to 10 or 18 to 13 ....and Vidal had 15 and Hampton had 13 so not far off. Hampton looked strong out there and just needs to get back in the groove he was starting to get when he got hurt.

Just kills me that our OL isnt any better right now than it was last season.

Hampton played very well but yes, there were lofty expectations galore on social media about returning better than ever and carrying the team.

I know because I got pummeled and spat on for saying his run total would be close to his season average, not season best.

He'll play him if he thinks he's the best QB available. Steichen gets to work him out with Colts players. They're grown men and can make their own decisions.
I have my doubts but I've been surprised before.

I was hoping for about 15 touches - and I think he had 13 carries and the one catch

I think in time, and that is probably next year, he can be a 20-25 touch per game running back.

Rivers lead the Colts to an 11-5 record and the Colts almost beat the Bills in Buffalo in a playoff game. I think he was better than any QB they have had since. Granted, the bar is low

That said, that WAS also five years ago. I get mobility was never a strength but that cannot be improved at this point. His game was always about the mental side, anticipation and release. So he still might have those. but he is going to be pretty easy to find for defenses - especially like Seattle and Houston.

IMHO, Hampton needs to improve his pass pro if he is going to get more reps over Vidal. What was once a weakness of Vidal (pass pro) is now becoming a strength.

I thought you could see a noticeable burst to Hampton. I kind thought to myself...."Ooh I forgot how explosive he was" . No disrespect to Vidal.

I expected split carries with Vidal getting as many or more. Hampton looked good for no game action for over a month. I think both will improve going forward as a 1 - 2 and the split remains close to keep them fresh. If Hampton starts having games where he looks totally dominant, sure lean into it but still give him some rest and use Vidal every now and again.

He was very good in his debut back from injury and the coaches were wise not to overload him.

I think he earned the coaches confidence to ramp his carries back to normal after that strong showing but Kimani’s made a statement by his performance that he doesn’t want to take a back seat in the rotation either.

Lucky to have them both and healthy down the stretch.
