it’s like the last meaningless game of the 2005 season when Brees got his shoulder ripped apart. Shottenheimer and AJ didn’t see eye to eye about whether Brees or Rivers should be the QB if you recall.

He does stuff like tell Payton, "That's what I would have done, too!" or "Here's some juicyfruit" or "I have some extra oxycontin, you want it?" He also serves the function of being someone Payton can blame when the gameplan Payton developed and the play that Payton called did not work.

As you can see, I hate Payton, too.

as far as I know Payton calls all of the plays, its broadly reported he does and always has. I'd welcome any modified limited corrections if someone actually knows something different.

Payton does call the plays. Has all the offensive sheets in his hand the whole game. I think he just did it to promote Webb so LV dont get him. Still , Lombo been with Payton 15 years.

True but Roman was with Harbaugh for umpteen years and we had no problem with that.

Agree but Roman actually calls the plays...and isnt innovative while Lombo doesnt call the plays with Payton.

Should that apply to Tom Brady? Anyway, not really caring about the 'First Ballot', Belichick belongs in the HOF regardless of the timing. Gates not getting in on the first ballot is a travesty, but the so-called standards of the writers who vote them in extends beyond the performance in games played (or certain games they didn't play in like Super Bowls), and that just seems wrong to me.

The question of is Lombo useless to a Payton offense is a fair question, I too don't know what he does other than be a super-position coach like every other group coach since Payton is defining it all. He's not an OC - that was my concern when he came here.

The douche part is Payton fired him the day after Payton laid the stinking turd in the AFCCG, failed to take 3 points despite a storm coming in, and called a crap play that got blown up on 4th down. Payton was the one all week who talked about how he had prepared Stiddy for this moment and this game.

There was no epiphanous change in what Lombo has been doing for him for the last 3 seasons that occurred the day after the AFCCG.

yes. Folks don' recall - deflategate was not pinned to Bill, the league never said he was involved in that and they didn't punish him for that one. They suspended and fined Brady for it.
