What other utility is there for void years besides cap cost deferral?

I think void years should be prohibited in the next CBA on a go-forward. It’s blatant financial fraud against the team cap rule, it’s embarrassing.
Players don't care - as they get their money.

I wonder if this is just a mistake by Jason OTC in terms of how he put the Kermit contract. Now somebody like Dallas Goedert, his makes sense. Void year hits from 2026 -2029

Wow didnt see this coming! Now another team competing for a starting center

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Bears C Drew Dalman will retire from the NFL after five seasons.

Dalman had just landed a three-year, $42 million contract from the Bears last offseason, so this stunning move shakes up their interior line continuity badly. Dalman finished his lone season with the Bears with a 72.6 PFF offensive grade, his third year in a row rating as a quality center. He was named to the Pro Bowl for his efforts. This is a legitimate stunner — rarely do you see a 27-year-old stepping away in the prime of his career on a great contract. The Bears are now back on the center market after thinking they solved the position last offseason.

The Bears are a team that does not fuck around when it comes to shoring up their o line

Free agent C Tyler Biadasz is visiting the Bears on Tuesday.

Seems like they may have known about Drew Dalman’s retirement before we did. Biadasz played reasonably for the Commanders last season and would seem like a solid Dalman replacement given the alternatives.

When pressed for a reason, he sighed and said, “Man, I’ve snapped the ball under blitz pressure that would make Bozeman shit his pants, taken shots from 350 lb DT’s, and somehow survived years of bad O-line coaching worse than Mike Devlin….but my hemorrhiods? They are straight-up allergic to Caleb’s nail polish. One glimpse of that glittery ‘Midnight Mauve’ shimmer during huddle time, and it’s like someone lit a match back there”.

Bears fans are in mourning….mostly because the real pain in the ass will be trying to out bid the insane amount the Chargers are throwing at Linderbaum.

Hortiz must have his sights on a different player

After the combine last week - he must have good vibes about his other options at Center

Oweh must have been asking for a bit too much for Trader Joe...also, here's a question for y'all: WHAT DID OWEH DO TO GET INTO THE RAVENS DOGHOUSE AND PRODUCE ZERO SACKS THE FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON? A bit of a red flag for me...

"Odafe Oweh went from forgotten-about first-round pick to impact player on a playoff team after he was traded to the LA Chargers. With a stellar showing in such a short time with the Bolts, Oweh made himself a sought-after free agent in what is an otherwise thin class.

Oweh may be so sought after that the Chargers can't justify bringing him back, even with ample cap space. The Athletic's Daniel Popper speculates that Oweh's price tag could reach $25 million per year, and while that may be the ceiling, it indicates how much competition the Chargers will have in free agency.

General manager Joe Hortiz isn't someone who operates at the top of the free-agent class, regardless of how much he likes a player. And as great as Oweh was in his short-lived time in LA, it may actually be a bit irresponsible to use that much cap space on just him.

Most importantly, there's another big-time player on the defensive line who should be prioritized over Oweh: Tuli Tuipulotu."

Unless he is willing to take a pay cut, chances are the Chargers will let Odafe Oweh sign elsewhere in free agency.
