I guess we need a definition for what exactly impactful means when designating a player as such.
But you seem to offer a very low bar to qualify.

They had 9 2026 draft picks and now still have 7. They decided Waddle is better for them now than any WR they can draft at 30.

Once i digested the trade and saw their thinking the price the Broncos paid made more sense to me

I don't think David Edwards, Elgton Jenkins, Wyatt Teller, or any of the other guards so many on this forum wanted Hortiz to sign are impact players, either. Tyler Linderbaum could fall into that category, though.

So, who's the impact player Hortiz should go after? If he wants an All-Pro guard, such as Quenton Nelson or Chris Lindstrom, he's going to have to give up a lot to get one of them, assuming either of those teams would be willing to make a trade at all. I highly doubt either team would be willing to trade its All-Pro guard, though.

Or should we just trade all of our draft picks for any impact player from a team willing to make a deal? Just so we can say, "Hey, Hortiz really went for it!"

I can tell you someone who was impactful - the guy Washington signed Odafe Oweh.

I don't know if he'll be a force on Washington; but I do know that he elevated the Charger defense he was on from good to elite last year.
Not sorry Hortiz is passing on OGs left and right and only brought in a ham and egger .... maybe slightly concerned.

But being fiscally overprudent and letting Oweh walk .... they will regret it.

That makes it even worse... Dammit... The Broncos are in the same spot with Nix that we were with Herbert just a couple years ago and they are handling it better... Smh... I hope our draft is something special. We need another 2024 level draft class this year.

The question of course is when ..... day 3? This is still very much uncertain.

Why mitigate your stud OTs and solid center with substandard guard play? That really is the issue.
I was a Malik Nabers guy, but once Hortiz drafted Alt, I wanted them to go get a center in the 2nd round and not waste the investment in OTs.

Comparisons between the Charger and other offensive lines is kind of a waste of time .... maximizing their talent is the issue.

For me, Hortiz letting Oweh walk and sitting on a ton of cap money with no where to go with it is the frustrating part.
They get a 4rth round comp, but now are virtually forced to go edge in round 1 .... which is more a negative than the comp is worth.

I am confident McDaniel will figure things out to kick start some life back into the offense, with substandard OGs.
And then I can well see that weakness getting exploited mercilessly by one team in the playoffs next year.

Too me, it seems like Hortiz's primary MO is just to put out a consistent winning product .... but never anything great, taking no risks.

No, because Lamar Jackson sucks in the playoffs. They had Super Bowl-caliber teams in 2019 and 2023.

I don't think Oweh is anywhere near worth $25 million a year. I also don't think him being here would have influenced Hortiz to not draft an edge early. Mack is probably gone after this season. Oweh doesn't do what Mack does. The need for another edge would have still been there, and there are quite a few of them to pick from early in the draft.

My guess is Hortiz will pick a guard somewhere in the first three rounds. If he hadn't taken Ladd McConkey and Tre' Harris in the second round the last two years, this board would be screaming about how he has neglected Herbert by not giving him any weapons to throw to.

The Broncos now have added Waddle (a player our OC unlocked) and nothing else. Their draft capital is now equivalent--actually less than ours, while their free salary cap is light years behind the Bolt.

I admire Nix as a person, but his down-field accuracy fails repeatedly. Can he hit Waddle downfield? Can he hit a barn downfield? Open question.

Let's be clear: 3 of the Broncos remaining picks are in the irrelevant zone--picks 246 or later. No first. No third. Their draft is crippled, and they've spent this entire offseason acquiring absolutely nothing external except a 5'10" 185 pound receiver.

The Broncos have a deeper roster without the weakness we have, they didn't need to do much. The one thing they needed they stepped up to address it.
The Broncos had the top o line that goes 8 solid players deep, we have question marks and no depth
