Could this be the Chargers future?

In a sane world, this really should be a make or break year for Herbert in terms of truly earning a long term extension. I get it, they will obviously sign him because this franchise has lucked out on having steady QB play in the last 20 years between Brees and Rivers, and nobody wants to wander thru the QB wilderness again.

But the reality is this team is probably a coin flip in terms of making the playoffs this year, and history is not on their side (last time they had back-to-back playoff appearances was 2008-2009). Basically the same team, but a year older, especially the already fragile ones.

So we would be giving the farm to a QB with one playoff appearance and 0 playoff wins in 4 seasons. Yes, it would be an investment in future returns but it's kind of crazy when you think of it.

Make or break year for Social Media QB. Not because he won't get paid, but because it's time to see some signature wins, not just pretty throws.

History has less to do with playoff success than health.
JH didn't have a remarkable year- for him- other than leading his team to the playoffs with busted rib cartilage and a damaged shoulder that required surgery immediately post season. While leading the NFL's most injured roster. That's his history also, along with 1st QB ever stuff. .
He'll get paid. His desire to win will require quality teammates so he won't break the bank.

I think it's pretty funny that Again the Chargers have a great QB with limited success as a team.To me and most fans I know this shows complete ineptitude on the part of the Spanos and their ability to build a quality team around Herbert. This shit show is not and never will be on Herb,it's on Spanos and their hiring and firings. This is one of the many reasons most fans despise these owners, their morons.

SHOULD have been a long time ago. I'm afraid the drafting of Zion, Slater, Herbert, James, Williams, and Bosa in the first round has fooled people into believing Telesco has done an outstanding job. The actual results on the field don't apply to an evaluation of his performance.

In a sane world, our fans would look at our own QB and be incredibly grateful that we have a top 5 QB in the league and if we don't win it is not because of our QB play.

He’s already made it and then some. He’s elite. Period. Pay him with a smile.

coin flip to make the playoffs … pfft. Disagree. The are odds on to make the playoffs. In the words of this site - BET THIS TEAM!

I think the extension for Hurts is a mistake. He's had one great year, in which he threw for 22 touchdown passes and 3,701 yards--both career highs. Is he a good enough passer to lead the Eagles if you take his ability to run away? Can he have sustained success with the way he plays? He's run it 365 times in 45 starts, and last year he got banged up a bit.

Hopefully there's a reasonable solution to these quarterbacks getting outrageous deals. There was no good reason for Jimmy Garoppolo to be the highest-paid player in the NFL at any point in his career, nor should Daniel Jones receive $160 million over four years. It's ridiculous.

?!?!?!?! He almost won them their second superbowl but thanks to no Philly defense they lost to the reid crowd. Better risk than wentz...

And there it is. HE almost won them their second Super Bowl--as if the rest of the team around him, including a dominant offensive line, had nothing to do with it. Was his performance in this last Super Bowl as great as Nick Foles' during the Super Bowl the EAGLES actually won?

He's probably gonna be like Cam Newton and Lamar Jackson. Who were hot for a while but then fizzled out.

We have it good with Herbert. He needs the supporting cast around him to help him, on offense and defense.
