He also had what was described as a “gruesome nail injury” - probably ripped off?

And we're stuck with the bill.
I think it's way too early to put him in the Carson Wentz category. Herbert these last two seasons is reminding me of Rivers in 2011 and 2012, Norv's last two years as head coach. Rivers didn't look himself, but then Mike McCoy came along in 2013 and all of a sudden Rivers was an elite quarterback again. Herbert needs a new head coach, but hopefully someone much better than McCoy.

One thing I don't understand about Herbert at this point in his career is it doesn't feel like this is his team at all, as far as leadership goes. Even with a bad head coach I would like to see Herbert take on more of a leadership role. Those who act like Herbert can do no wrong will misinterpret that as me pushing for Herbert to act more like Rivers. That is not the case. Herbert can be a quiet leader in the same way Joe Montana was. But I can't tell you who the leader of this team is, which is a problem. My guess is it's Keenan Allen or Austin Ekeler.

We're not in the locker room so I don't know that he's not. His teammates always seem to have his back. It'd be pretty hard for me to not follow the guy giving the injuries he has suffered and still gritting it out and not missing time. His OL , for one, should make sure he never wants for anything off the field, because they are getting him killed &/or running for his life on it.

Give him a coach like Bruce Arians - -he will get a helluva better

A great example was the 3rd quarter Chargers D balling out. The O led by Herbert chose to hand off the ball and run up the middle 3 straight plays. If Chargering is to stop, Herbert must put a stop to it and throw the damn ball.

Fuck establishing the run and reacting to the terms of the other team. Yes football is situational, improve how talent is used. Clearly the O-line has limitations so stop running Eck into the teeth of the D-line. And Herert needs to unleash himself moving out of the pocket to both run and throw deep.
I agree 100% with this. He needs to take control of the offense. If that were Peyton Manning in there in that situation he'd wave the call off and call what he wanted.

Dolphin fans have this weird obsession with Herbert, so I kind of laughed when I saw this:

but they are winning right now. all he has to do is drop back, plant and throw to a spot cuz his receivers are so damn fast and get open. ever see him try to heave something 40 yards? his game is all about timing over the middle.

Honestly, I cant believe how many people just don't understand how important actual OFFENSIVE WEAPONS are. The year Mike McCoy showed up, do you know who else did? Keenan Allen. Adding Allen to Gates helped a lot. Herbert doesn't have any one on the offense that puts fear into defenses. Anyone who disagrees with this are not able to get past their fandom and actually analyze the roster. Keenan is old, Ekeler is a good scat back only. Again NOBODY scares defenses.

Rivers had a rookie Keenan Allen, a 33-year-old Antonio Gates, Eddie Royal, and a second-year third-round pick in Vincent Brown (who was cut in 2014). Malcom Floyd and Danario Alexander went down with season-ending injuries early. If you think that's better or scarier than what we have now you're clueless.

Rookie Keenan went over 1000 in 15 games.

Again who on this team scares any defense? Keenan catches it and is an easy tackle. Palmer is SLOW man. That bomb that he caught should have been a TD. It's actually pathetic it wasn't. Mike Williams like ALWAYS got hurt. Even when healthy the guy is slow and always has to make contested catches because he cant separate. Running game sucks. We hear scheme and tight ends...blah blah..Ekeler is a WAY below average RUNNER.

If it was me Id go heavy run with Kelly and just try to play action. THe o-line cant hold up long enough for the slow WRs to get down field.

Im sick of hearing how "talented" this team is. IT ISNT. ALl it does is let Telesco keep getting a pass.

Yep and the new NFL buzz word is ANTICIPATION. When in reality these guys like Tua and Purdy are actually PREDETERMING where to go based on play call and defense.

I understand the need for blame and that guys with the biggest check get the biggest scrutiny. But I will ride or die with Herbert to the gates of hell, all of the Madden warriors who think playing NFL QB is easy and jumped off the wagon at the first sight of trouble will realize they are wrong eventually.
