Herbert still took too many hits last night and went head first when he could have slid.

I don’t think Hercules wild abandon for his safety is smart for the long term.

Last night's game just reinforced that when an offensive line is wiped out by injury, how much it affects a QB. It also reinforced how despite that, Herbert can keep the team afloat for long stretches singlehandedly while someone like Wentz is overwhelmed.

Herbert helped himself out last night. The right side of the line was Foster Sarrell and Bobby Hart. Neither was on the team a few weeks ago. But Herbert was very decisive last night and ran when the room was there. He's great at throwing on the run as well and showed that off. But when he has that run threat it changes a lot of things

he was killing the vikings with 8-12 yard runs. great vision and instincts by Herbert last night.

I personally don’t understand how Herbert can watch guys like Mahomes, Allen and pretty much all of the other QBs who the experts consider to be top 5… constantly extend drives with their legs (usually their legs as a weapon to such a degree as to where the opposing teams defense has to factor it into their game planning)… without deciding to implement it more himself.

It’s really helping guys like Bo Nix and Jaxon Dart. It keeps drives alive… makes the opponent have to account for, and can completely demoralize a defense!

Herbert can throw… Herbert can throw on the run… but if he improves (meaning if he looks to do it more consistently) that element of his game… it puts him right of there with the other top 5 QBs

There is a balance between wreckless scrambling, and running with purpose for a QB. At this point of his career, I trust Justin to make the right decision when he can run, and its not up to G-Ro or Harbaugh to tell him, other than short yardage situations. So far so good, he hasn't been dinged to where he can't play. With Alt and Pipkins back, he has a better chance of lasting the season, without those two, I had big doubts.

Bobby Hart may have replaced Pipkens. We'll see on 10 days but he got the start and played instead of Pipkens last night

And just to add to my own post, last season, the Chargers played 4 games against non-division playoff teams. Steelers, Ravens, Buccaneers and Texans. Two at home and two on the road.

Herbert ran once in the Steelers game… 4 times in the Ravens game… not at all in the game against Tampa, and not at all in the playoff game against the Texans. That’s literally just 5 rushing attempts in those 4 games. Justin Herbert was obviously dealing with injuries last… especially early on, which I’m sure drastically affected his ability to scramble.

I look at it like he's got a better chance of driving away from the avalanche than just waiting for it to crush him. He's got zero pocket. Dance around from the total collapse and take off when it's available to do so. Last night was beautiful. Nothing demoralizes and exhausts a DL more than to pin their ears back and NOT get home. Plus, he throws on the run about as good as anyone to ever play the position. The Defense is forced to pick a poison. Attack him or stick to their guy. Can't do both.
