I am all in on Bowers. Not only is the dude a great all around TE, he is an exceptional ATHLETE. A play maker. Gates was a phenomenal TE, one of the greatest ever and Bowers is way more athletic than Gates ever was. Athleticism is something this offense is sorely lacking (just watch QJ run his routes). Go watch Bowers play, he is the best player on the field every play, every game.

Four months early and I am all in on Bowers at this point. (BTW-He is a totally different player and skill set than Kyle Pitts, so please don't compare the two.)

I agree. His run blocking isn't talked about enough. He is the complete package. And dude loves to play football. You want to talk about culture change? Get a winner like him in here.

Fact is we are gonna need to beef up the O line but also the WR group which had a shit ton a crucial drops (other than Slayer of course) is gonna be depleted next season too.We need both.

The list of WR free agents seem plenty deep to me.
I think they can find those weapons at a discount.

I don't think that should play into the process at 5. Now Nabers would be good value at 5 I believe but just because they may move from one or both WRs - doesn't make WR a higher priority. The team needs a lot everywhere... Best player at 5

If they cut both Allen and Williams drafting a WR ready to play on day 1 is a must and they will be fortunate and have Nabers available and perhaps a long shot at MH if a QB needy team or 2 overpays someone to move up.

Just get some weapons anywhere...

How is that working for KC right now? How did that work for Miami before Hill? For all the Burrow talk...he sucked his rookie year, Higgins drafted same year, and then Chase shows up. Allen was meh and then Diggs showed up.

If you don't have ACTUAL explosive speed SOMEWHERE on your offense the defense can squeeze the field and make your QB have to be perfect all the time. Even the most accurate QBs will fail eventually. This is what has happened to Herbert since he arrived.


Everyone needs to go back and watch the final regular-season Raiders game in 2021. Herbert made MORE THAN ENOUGH winning plays. If we had a WR with any explosion/REAL athletic ability they would have taken a few of those to the House. Instead, people think Keenan and Mike Williams were "elite". You need ACTUAL game changers. Not possession guys and/or contested catch guys who can't separate.

But also remember no Superbowls.

The only Chargers team that went to Superbowl was tough and physical. Which always works best in the game of football.

Passing for a bunch of yards. Who cares if you can't get a yard or stop when you need it because you line of scrimmage is the weak link and busts.

You completely lost me by the time you moved Slater to guard …

I don't want to move Slater to guard. LOL. He was projected by many so-called experts to be a guard in the NFL because of his short arms. If you draft one of the left tackles with the fifth pick I think it should be with the intent to have him play on the right side and leave Slater where he is. I'm not sure either Alt or Fashanu can make that switch, though. So, if you draft either of them and he can't make a smooth transition to the right side, that means you have to either move Slater and let the rookie start at left tackle--or have the rookie struggle on the right side or ride the bench behind Pipkins or someone else. If you ask Slater to move to guard or right tackle, you're likely creating a problem as contract extension talks begin with him and his agent.

I love Keenan, but he will be 32 in a couple of months and has now missed significant time the past two years. The $23 million savings we'd get by cutting him and the $20 million by cutting Williams will be big factors in the retooling.

One of the main reason the oline looked so bad is because the Chargers had no run game. Defenses didn't respect the run and pinned their ears back and came after the QB. Improve the run game and the oline looks completely different.

I've been a fan for 45 years. Sorry man what weapons? LT has been the only actual can take it to the house from anywhere weapon this team has had since after Air Coreyell days. Gates wasn't taking a slant 80 yards.

The Chargers "weapons" have been massively overrated for years.


Also we've drafted a QB, LT, and a guard in the first round 3 straight years. No super bowls there either.

We had Jamal, Seau, Harrison. 3 levels of HALL OF FAME players on defense....and they were a part of the 4-12 season that had us draft Rivers.


There is no secret formula. But in today's NFL you better have some actual speed that changes things, and that isn't going to be found signing someone else's leftovers.

Add in another $23m from trading/releasing Mack. Chargers might have the means to do some things in free agency - but also build depth in the roster (meaning no more minimum players at back up QB, Center, etc)
