I also believe CB might be the 1st round pick, the cool thing about them targeting corner is that the trade down possibilities and compensation increase dramatically...I want bowers myself but I can understand why they would go corner too...I would argue that TE is in even worse shape than CB on this team...one thing is for sure, they will be drafting at least 1 TE and maybe even 2 in this upcoming draft...a mid round favorite of mine is Holker who seems ideal for a Jim Harbaugh type offense, I'm also interested in learning more about Jared Wiley from TCU, he seems like another guy that might fit the mold of what Harbaugh wants in a TE...Originally posted by Boltnut View Post
Sarrell is a ERFA... ideally, the only pushing I want to see with Sarrell is... out the door. We have to get better @RT. Protect the franchise and run the ball better. Harbaugh and I are like-minded on this. If they want to draft a stud RG and move Salyer out to RT, then fine. But the braintrust better be sure it works @RT. This is their first true test.
C, IDL, and IOL can be had in later rounds. CB is a consideration in the 1st for me. Mid-round CB if they feel RT has to be in the 1st. But damn, the CB cupboard is bare... with the 30th pass defense. Yuck!"The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. I'm really confident that Jim and his people will fix whatever's wrong with this O-line...I don't think I've had this much confidence in a coach since Marty and Ross before that...but Harbaugh's track record might be even more impressive than those guys...Originally posted by Boltnut View Post

nothing would surprise me, they might shuffle some guys around, they might keep things status quo and just coach them up and add a center, who know?"The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. Even if it seems that Romans will be the OC -- it all starts with Harbaugh as HC. And he will be the leader of the staff like Marty. And he will make sure the offense he wants is on the field - in time. So I expect the Oline will be better because the coaching will be better.Originally posted by Fouts2herbert View Post

As a fan I would love Bowers. Fans do not make great choices when choosing picks!!
OK, so let's say that ALT is the best OT in the draft, BUT is he SO MUCH better than the next few OT's? I don't think so. If you go OT you must trade down and take the best available.

I've neve seen so much OT's in the 1st round in a lot of official mocks out there. If that is truly the case then a rising playmaking prospect at WR or RB may result in 1st round grade OT talent falling to us early in the 2nd.Originally posted by Icebolt View PostAs a fan I would love Bowers. You may be correct. Pass on OT in first round and hope a good one fall to #2.Originally posted by AK47 View Post

By the way here is a list from Jeremiak's top 32 players.
OT= Alt, Fuaga, Fashanu, Latham, Fautanu, Guyton, Mims, Morgan. ( ok only 8 )
TE=Bowers
DT=Murphy, Newton and D. Robinson

Woah that's what I'm taking about. Tons of OTs in top 32. That's 1/4th of the top 32 guys.Originally posted by Icebolt View Post

The more combine warriors of playmaking positions the better for us.

why would we be drafting Alt? he's a left tackle, is he goin to start at LT over Slater or RT over pipkins? or is the idea to move Slater to guard or RT and start an impressive prospect but also unproven rookie as Herberts blindside protector? Are either one of Slater or Alt okay with moving to RT? if the plan is to replace pipkins as I think many on these forums are inclined to do, then why not draft the kid from Oregon State after a nice trade down instead of Alt?Originally posted by Icebolt View PostAs a fan I would love Bowers. We would draft Alt to play right tackle. Penei Sewell, Jack Conklin, Ryan Ramczyk, and many others made the transition from the left to the right side in their rookie years. Tyron Smith was a right tackle at USC, played right tackle his rookie year with the Cowboys, and moved to the left side on his way to what could be a Hall of Fame career. Lane Johnson played both left and right tackle at Oklahoma. These are all All-Pros. Making a move from left to right tackle or vice-versa is not the impossible task so many are making it out to be.Originally posted by Fouts2herbert View Post

Alt was recruited as a tight end out of school. He played some tight end during his freshman year at Notre Dame. I think asking him to switch from tight end to offensive tackle is a little bit harder than moving from the left side to the right.

How have you determined that Alt isn't so much better than the other offensive tackles in this draft?Originally posted by Icebolt View PostAs a fan I would love Bowers. Fans do not make great choices when choosing picks!!

I'm intrigued with Fuaga, myself, but passing on Alt and trading back for Fuaga better not result us in ending up with another D.J. Fluker while Alt turns into a great player.
