Bowers was the best TE in college football history. He is a far better football player than Quentin Johnston

        yes

Can you name another TE that has ever won the Mackey Trophy twice?

Somone else who dominated as a true freshman?

That means he is the most decorated tight end in college football history - not the best.

Archie Griffin won the Heisman trophy twice - greatest college football player ever?

His non injury marred pro career was somewhat of a bust.

Right now, if they were stuck at #5,

I'm leaning towards Nabers or Taliese Fuaga.

Fair enough, but Bowers is a very good football player with a good floor that wont bust in the NFL. He also brings more to an offense than your typical TE he keeps getting referred to on here.

Bowers isn't just a TE he is a weapon who can line up anywhere to include behind the line. In other words he is multi-dimensional which will be a headache for teams to try and defend.
Time to put my money where my mouth is: Hampton will be better than Jeanty!

Bowers not getting past 12 (Payton's Broncos).

However in their final college season before entering draft ....
722yds and 8 TDs on 45 touches for Kelce is a little better production per touch than 742yds and 7 TDs on 62 touches for Bowers.

                    Travis is also 6'5 250.

Bowers is suppose to be 6'4 230.
He looks a bit smaller to me.

                    I just don't see Top 5, 10 or even 15 player.
And I know I'm one of the few that have him outside top 10.
But I just don't see special. I see a really good football player who after pick #15 would be worth drafting.
Kelce also played at Cincinnati, not Georgia.

I don't see why Bowers having a more productive college career than Kelce means much now. Ryan Leaf had a more productive college career at Washington than Tom Brady did at Michigan.

Been my favorite player in college football since he was a freshman
I would like for them to draft him

But I would like a better player or players even more. Right now, all things equal - trading to 8 and getting a 3/4 in 2024 and another pick in 2025 wouldn't be the worst thing. Might even still get him at 8

Safe prospect/good floor are not words you want to hear for a top 5 pick. Aaron Curry was considered one of the safest picks in the draft in 2009 and nobody thought he would bust. He busted (and not even because of injuries).
There is no such thing as a safe prospect, and no such thing as wont bust.
For any player we draft at #5 if we only get their floor, the pick will be automatically be a bust.

We need an impact player at an impact position. TE isn't it at #5.

He can be a dominant player in the NFL. Granted, usually with top picks its QB, Edge and LT. Chargers have LT and QB, Edge isn't the right value. Bowers would be a very solid pick at 5. Nabers could bust; MHJr could bust.

If the pick at 5 gets a second contract at market value - no matter the player or position - that will be the standard.
