I understand the talk from the organization that they want to compete this year, but it's a two year rebuild. They hopefully won't be garbage this year, but they need upgrades at C, RB, TE, RT, LB, FS for this year (assuming neither OG spot is a dumpster fire). Edge, IDL, and WR will need some help in coming years depending on cuts.
That's just too much for 1 year with not much cap money.
I hope they are planning on building better this year and really competing the year after. That way they don't have to feel pressure to fill every hole with a long term answer and find some cheaper stop gap options in FA.

I saw an interesting (and likely very unrealistic, but what the hell) trade proposal: if one of the QBs the Falcons really want is on the board when our pick comes up, would you swap our pick for their pick plus Bijan?

I'm not sure how much but it won't be the reason they trade down, in the days before the fixed rookie contracts, yes, in those days teams did trade out of those picks for cap reasons...
Draft picks in round 2 and below are cheap players so that wont effect us being able to add 2 second or a couple of thirds as we would be losing the higher value in the first round. Our 2nd round pick cap hit for example will be under 2 mil(1.9), 3rd rounder just above 1 m(1.1) which is kinda like a vet minimum deal or slightly lower than a vet deal.
Those are OTC figures.1. Mason Taylor TE LSU
2. Quinshon Judkins RB Ohio st
3. Kyle Kennard Edge So. Carolina ✓
4. CJ West DT Indiana
5. Don'te Thornton WR Tennessee
6. Zah Frazier CB UTSA
6. Jarquez Hunter RB Auburn
6. Jay Higgins LB Iowa
6. Hunter Wohler S Wisconsin
7. Carson Vinson OT Alabama

We may be surprised, maybe not. I totally support his choices whatever they may be. Now.
If he passes on a player that's all world as a rookie for someone else and Harbaugh doesn't even make the playoffs, he's a POS.
All the changes aren't about someday being better. The time is NOW and the clock's ticking. Get your ducks in a row Joe.
