And yes, you do notice when OL and DL do or don't make plays. It's the easiest thing to see on screen.

Evaluating another teams DBs would be far more difficult.
DL maybe. OL is a hard position to judge live because most of the time you wont even know what their assignments were.

When a OT gets beat by a pass rush or misses a block its not hard to see bad play. Dunlap had plenty of that. Where he'd totally whiff a block or get beat upfield.

What you are implying is we can't say Harris was a bad LT because we didn't know his assignment. That's BS

obviously when a guy gets beat for a sack you can see it. what you cant really see are the other 60 or so plays.

and harris was bad obviously but hes an exception where he's so bad that everyone can see it.

Everyone can see it with most OL.

And everyone could see it with Dunlap as well.

bad but if you put the two together you still get a guy thats ranked 30th or so among all tackles in the league. thats hardly a guy that "sucks"

Where do you get him being ranked 30 or so?

As far as his run blocking. This was the game where he cost his team a chance to win the game:

Film breakdown: A little King Dunlap comedy, in pictures

If you saw yesterday's Eagles-Cowboys game, you already know King Dunlap had a terrible game. He had 38 penalties (estimated), and forgot that he was part of the FG protection team, which forced the Eagles to have to burn a time out. But in re-watching the game, I happened upon this gem of a play.

The Eagles are going to run a little delayed draw to LeSean McCoy. At the snap, Dallas Reynolds and King Dunlap are going to try to get to the second level:

Foles hands to McCoy, who has room around the edge with Dunlap out in front and likely a nervous Brandon Carr, who thinks he's got a 6'9 behemoth bearing down on him:

When suddenly, for no reason whatsoever, Dunlap just stops:

"Oh, you mean you wanted me to block somebody, LeSean?"

That sequence is why I would prefer Starks to start. I don't mind getting solid, unspectacular play from our LT this season. Starks only had 3 penalties last season.

To be fair, breaking down a single play for any player can make them look horrible. While I haven't participated in the pissing contest about these guys, wasn't Starks the second lowest rated tackle in the league last season?
